Nacogdoches, Texas is a small town located in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Texas. It is bordered by Lubbock to the east, Midland to the north, and Sherman County to the west. According to 2010 census data, Nacogdoches has a population of 7,812. The name Nacogdoches derives from the Creek Sioux word nak-a-goc which means "the place where everything grows." The first European settlers in what is now Nacogdoches arrived in 1836 and named it after their commander at that time, Captn John A. Neely, Jr., who had been killed in action some months earlier. The original courthouse was built on what is now Main Street in 1839 and served as the county seat for eight years before being moved to its present location on Commerce Street in 1851. The town was platted on December 10, 1856 by James Witherspoon Porter and James Clements Choate under authority of an act of Congress passed two weeks earlier. At that time it contained only about 400 residents but grew rapidly due to investments by several oil men including Jethro Gibbs and George Robertson McGhee along with numerous farmers who supplied goods and services needed for development such as transportation and retail trade. In July 1865 local resident Denton Baird attempted unsuccessfully to overthrow Confederate LtCol Nathan Bedford Forrest during his raid into neighboring Midland County but this event represented only a minor skirmish within one of many conflicts over land rights throughout East Texas during Reconstruction Period Nacogdoches attained city status on December 3, 1907 while still under ZIP code 77901 It officially became a city when all nearby rural towns were integrated into it effective January 1, 1914 The City Council adopted resolutions declaring August 14th National Hispanic Day in 1938 In 1961 President John F Kennedy dedicated Interstate 20 near downtown as part of his administration's efforts to stimulate economic development within Eastern Texas On November 15th 2002 Hurricane Rita made landfall just south of town killing 42 people before dissipating over Mexico About one year later Tropical Storm Allison produced wind gusts up to 100mph (160kmh) making landfall just outside town limits damage included trees downed power outages occurred Telephone service was restored about 12:00 pm CST

Nacogdoches, Texas is a town located in Butler County, Texas, United States. The population was 986 at the 2010 census. Nacogdoches was founded in 1876 and named for General Sam Houston. The first post office in Nacogdoches was established in 1877. The Nacogdoches cotton gin and mill were built by George Waco in 1865 and operated until 1921. In 1907, the largest oil well drilled to date on the Red River near present-day Wichita Falls was discovered here. This led to the development of the oil industry in this part of Texas and helped spur growth throughout Butler County during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Nacogdoches while on his way to Fort Worth for a speech at Dallas Stadium. At that time, it was one of only two small towns (the other being Odessa) in Butler County with a school system of its own. In 1941, during World War II, local residents supported American involvement by growing crops for food aid and donating goods such as automobiles to military campaigns abroad. The war also helped stimulated economic development within Butler County as businesses opened up to take advantage of wartime production opportunities. After the war ended, many factory closures took place in eastern Texas due to falling prices for natural resources such as coal and steel; however, some new companies did form along with increased employment within Butler County thanks to postwar technological advances such as television production plants and shipbuilding yards located hereabouts (see photo below). Today’s economy is dominated by medical care services;manufacturing;and retail trade interests including grocery stores chains like Walmart Supercenter/Mall of America et al.; airport service providers like Southwest Airlines/Houston George Bush Airport et al.; numerous restaurants which serve breakfast through dinner each day with variouslocations around town; several health clinics providing primary care services from weekday mornings through late evenings; anotelevision station serving both KVUE-TVChannel 11 (NBC) TX & Fox affiliate KHOU-TVChannel 8 (CW) Texan Broadcasting Company [now Nexstar Broadcasting Corporation],(a Time Warner company); several golf courses dotting what used to be agricultural land but now provide parkland or open space adjacent thereto including one located just outside town limits on Lackland Air Force Base property; several water systems supplying residences westward along Interstate 10W into neighboring counties: White Sands Lake Iranian National Golf Club & Resort - a luxurious 12-hole championship golf course adjacent to White Sands Lake resort has been home solely since 1978 [to Iranian expatriates]; Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., now Akebono Tire Corp.] Nacogdoches is located at 36°24′40″ North latitude north longitude east longitude
