Murphy, Texas is one of the most beautiful places in the United States. The town was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1881 and has since grown into a small community of over 6,000 people. bagpipes music, whisky distilleries, and now astronomy are all major attractions here. One of the things that makes Murphy so unique is its history. One of the first scopes to be brought to Murphy was an early 18th century harpoon telescope that was used by Captain James Cook on his voyage to Australia in 1770. This telescope helped explorers document many aspects of Australian life including local wildlife and landforms. In addition, it is believed that this telescope may have been used by General Santa Anna during his siege of San Antonio in 1847 when he used his harpoon telescope to observe the battle from high up on Mount Balboa. In 1881, two Scottish-Irish immigrants named John and Margaret Murphys opened their business as a grocery store and observatory in what is today known as downtown Murphy. Over time, they became popular among locals for their excellent astronomical viewing options and continued to sell telescopes door-to-door until 1916 when they sold their business to JH Webb who continued to operate it until 1951. In 1951, JH Webb donated his entire collection of antique telescopes (including some from 16th century England) to Rice University which began restoration work on these devices beginning in 1957 under the direction of Professor Edwin Hubble Jr.. The museum currently contains more than 100 historic telescopes dating back to at least 1780! The Museum also features original equipment from many different types of scopes including 20th century digital instruments as well as rare accessories such as eyepieces made for Dutch optical instruments! Today, Murphy is home to one of America’s largest astronomical museums with more than 150 exhibits covering everything from astrophysics through plate tectonics!

The community was initially named "Flamingo" because of the hot weather conditions that prevailed during its early years - the temperature would often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius). However, soon enough residents decided that Murphy should be its own name and change it to "Murphy." In 1957, the City Council voted to rename itself "Dallas–Fort Worth." That year saw significant growth as businesses moved into Murphy from nearby Richardson and Plano; by 1970 there were more than 200 businesses operating in downtown Dallas alone due to booming demand for housing and jobs within walking distance of both downtown Dallas and Fort Worth Airport. Today's downtown district contains many century-old brick buildings dating back to early settler days including the old courthouse which still stands today complete with an elaborate clocktower! The current mayor of Murphy is Byron Cook who was elected November 6th 2017

Murphy is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, located on the edge of the Hill Country. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Murphy was founded in 1881 by William Murphy and his wife Sarah. The first post office was established in Murphy in 1883. The original town site was north of present-day Murphy and south of what is now Rockport. The name came from John Murphys Creek that flowed through the area. In 1881, William Murphy built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the creek. He named his new community after himself, as he had done for many previous communities he had founded. In 1907, an unofficial referendum approved annexation by Fort Worth into Tarrant County; however, this did not take place until 1912 due to lack of documentation. A road leading to Murphy bypassed the original town site and began near what is now Rockport; this made it possible for people living in adjacent towns (Rockport to the east and Marble Falls to the west) to access Murphy without having to go through Fort Worth or walk long distances. Murphy experienced some setbacks during World War I; however, it recovered quickly following hostilities ended in 1918. Economic growth continued throughout most of the 20th century; however, oil production took over during the late 20th century and has left a deep impact on local economy since then. The current form of government for Murphy dates back to 1953 when Webb Imeson served as its first mayor and future state representative Bobby Rush served as its first clerk/treasurer/mayoralty candidate; both men were victorious against incumbent James Bunning who unsuccessfully ran for re-election that year In 1984–1985 James Bunning again unsuccessfully sought election as Mayor with 97% of precincts reporting while outgoing Mayor Webb Imeson received only 8%. In 1993 Donnellan Downs became Mayor effective date unknown after being elected Commissioner District 2 which included all but eastern portions of Tarrant County including parts of Rockport along with much rural land east of US 90 which also lay within Webb’s jurisdiction prior thereto
