Murphy, Texas is located in the Gulf of Mexico and straddles Lake Corpus Christi. The town was founded by Texans in 1836 as a post-office on the banks of the Trinity River. Murphy grew rapidly during the 1850s as cotton plantations were abandoned and new settlers arrived to fish, farm, and trade with Native Americans. In 1857, Murphy became the county seat of Nueces County after being chosen from a field competition. The population reached 10,000 by 1880 and 30,000 by 1900. By World War II, Murphy had increased to 100,000 residents and had become an important military center due to its location at the mouth of the Rio Grande. However, following World War IIMurphy experienced rapid decline in population until it peaked at around 50,000 in 2000 before slowly declining thereafter.

The first settlers in Murphy were George and Mary Murphy who arrived in 1827. They built a log cabin on their farmstead which remains standing to this day. In 1848, John and Nancy McGee purchased land from the Murphys and founded the town of Murphy. TheMcGee family continued to be residents of Murphy until they all died in 1906. In 1916, local citizens approved a zoning change that allowed for the development of organized industry within an agricultural community such as those found in other towns near Dallas-Fort Worth like Arlington and Plano. This new industry would spur economic growth and bring more jobs to Murphy while also providing support services to the town's residents including schools, fire department, grocery store, post office and bank. Since its inception as a small town with limited resources, many aspects of life have been unique to Murphy; some examples include: its independent school district (the only one in Ellis County), its three churches (Anglican, Methodist & Baptist), its volunteer Fire Department (founded by Captain James Fenton) which provides mutual aid between neighboring jurisdictions during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes; as well as its strong sense of community spirit that has helped it remain vibrant over time despite competition from larger municipalities like Garland or Mesquite. Scope mounts were developed in order to increase accuracy by making it easier for shooters to place their sights on target. They also allow shooters to change the magnification level without having to remove the entire firearm.
The first and only permanently attached expandable scope mount was the Weaver-style limited expansion mount, invented by George Weaver in 1958. This type of scope mount is still in use today, with a few variations. The original Weaver-style mounts were made from two pieces of plastic that could be screwed together to form a single unit. To attach theScope to the rifle, shooters had to remove one of these pieces and fasten it to the rifle using an included screws. In 1966, someone built a permanent attachment system for scopes using four circles that could be screwed into position on either side of the lens cover. This system became known as "Manual turrets" because shooters had to manually adjust each turret in order to get the perfect magnification for their riflescope. Manual turrets were eventually replaced by electronic turrets in 1980. The electronic turrets became more common in later years, but manual turrets are still occasionally used on high-end riflescopes.
Murphy, Texas is a small town located in Waco County, Texas. The population was 3,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Murphy was founded in 1892 by John Murphy and his brother Michael Murphy. The Murphys were farmers who grew corn, cotton, and other crops on their property. In 1916, they built a post office in the town and named it for their father-in-law, Patrick Murphy Sr.. When John Murphy died in 1919, his wife Mary took over running the post office and also operated the store. In 1930, she sold the store to her son-in-law Joe Pogue and moved to Japan where she lived until her death in 1945. In 1942–1943 World War II broke out and many people from Waco left to serve in the military; however, John Sallinger remained behind to keep everything running at home as well as open up a general store that had been closed during wartime. During World War II there were also several churches established within Murphy; First Presbyterian (1892), Second Presbyterian (1916), Methodist (1940), Baptist (1945), Catholic (1945). The last church service occurred on April 24th 1945 when Rev J Fenton preached from Revelation 21:8 about "the Lamb that takes away sin". Reverend Fenton was one of only two black pastors serving within Wichita Falls at that time. On October 1st 1957 a tornado tore through downtown Waco destroying most of what had been built since 1907 including both Post Offices building which still stands today as an art deco structure with its original glass windows intact – this became known as “The Dow Building” after its destruction which caused more than $2 million worth of damage! A plaque marking the location now stands near Pogue Plaza just east of Interstate 35E north of Wichita Falls Boulevard
