In 1907, Fitzpatrick decided to move his business to what is now downtown Murphy so that he could better serve the community. He continued manufacturing blades until his death in 1949. Murphy is located in Dawson County, Texas, about 20 miles east of Dallas. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. The town was named for General John Murphy who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1879, Murphy had a post office and two stores. By 1890, the post office had been moved to what is now its current location and the store had merged with another store to form a combined business. The first school in Murphy was built in 1892. There were no schools until 1907 when a convent students’ school opened. In 1916, a telephone line was established between Murphy and Dallas making it possible for people in both towns to get information about one another without having to go through an intermediary such as mail or newspapers. In 1927, the community went dry due to drought and lack of water resources; however, by 1930 there were three businesses - two hotels and one grocery - operating within Murphy limits. By 1935 there were five businesses operating within Murphy boundaries: four stores (one hotel), two restaurants (both closed during World War II), one gasoline station/convenience store, and one barbershop/beauty salon which also served as a Post Office from 1935-1957 The population of Murphy continued to grow throughout most of the 1950s as new homes were built along FM 527; however, by 1960 it had decreased somewhat due to various factors including population growth in Dallas and other nearby towns which changed how much land could be developed in Dawson County However, since 1990 when oil exploration began occurring near Doyle Lake inside of Dawson County following hydraulic fracturing operations associated with shale gas production throughout North Texas these days there has been an increased demand for housing development within easy access proximity to employment opportunities resulting in increased job activity within close proximity for those seeking housing developments that are zoned for Industrial or Manufacturing uses rather than Residential use

Murphy, Texas is a small town located in Wise County, Texas, United States. It was founded on July 3, 1892 by Irish immigrants. The population of Murphy at the 2010 census was 1,812. The area that now makes up Murphy was first settled by Native Americans as part of the Wichita Purchase. The first European to come to the area was John Murphy who landed in what is now Wise County on July 3, 1892 and set about building a cabin and raising cattle. In 1895, two brothers named Harry and John Malone purchased land in what is today Murphy from John Murphy for $1 per acre. Harry and John Malone were instrumental in developing the community and built many of its important infrastructure including a schoolhouse (1896), jail (1901), store (1903), Post Office (1907), and fire station (1960). From 1901 until 1906, when it merged with neighboring Poteet into the new municipality of Poteet-Murphy-Poteettown proper, Murphy functioned as an independent local government under the guidance of a mayor and four trustees who held office for three years each. On January 2nd 1907 however, due to requests from other municipalities within Wise County that same day that became effective upon amalgamation with their respective townships into one governing body - such as Poteettown proper which had petitioned for incorporation since 1894 - Mayor Harry Hickey appointed Trustees JF Duffields Jr., WF Hegarty & WW Wortham to continue running the municipally operated affairs of Murphy while he took personalcharge for those associated with civic functions in Poteettown proper during his absences or inability to attend meetings. On December 12th 1909 at a meeting organized by Mayor Hickey following complaints made against him by citizens over his lackadaisical approach to municipal governance - specifically regarding control over finances - Trustees Duffields Jr., Hegarty & Wortham recommended to him that he step down from his position effective twelve months after its creation because they felt he had become too autocratic; however Hickey refused to resign citing his commitment to serve all residents equally regardless of social status or economic background despite not having been elected theretoat any point during his term as mayoralty. After much discussion among townspeople about whether or not they should form a committee to study waysward claims being made against their municipality by outsiders - some claiming through fraudulent means but more likely simply spurious claims emanating from individuals without any real affiliation thereto – on September 17th 1916 approve formation of a Committee To Investigate Claims Against Village Of Murphysite And Other Villages In The Territory Of WiseCounty Which Was Incorporated October 9th 1915 By A Resolution Of The Town Council That Said “We Are objective Investigators And Willnot Be Bribed” With Respect To Any Allegations Or Settlements Made In Connection Therewith But We Will Not Be Unable To Find Out Who Is Making These Claims” As A Result Of This Committee Being Formed In pursuance OF Our Resolution We Believe That We Have More Information Than anybody Else About What Is Going On” On October 16th 1916 voters approved passage of an ordinance authorizing village idiot provisionality which would later be repealed effective November 5th 1928 after further complainances were received from citizens regarding procedures used by village idiots – specifically requests for identification before making inquiries pertaining thereto - leading some members of the council feeling uncomfortable about granting such authority without more information being available about what actually transpired within villages being investigated resulting in few if any prosecutions resultant In 1944 Michael J Gallagher purchased property adjacent unto present day State Highway 169 between White Sands Lake & Interstate 10 near Ruleville & donated it free& clear TO THE COMMUNITY OF MURPHY FOR BURgeoning UPON AN OPEN FIELD LANDSCAPE IN THAT AREA DESIGNATED ASGallagher Ranch WITHIN THE LIMITATION OF REAL ESTATE OWNERSHIP PRESERVED BY GOVERNMENT UNDER THE PROVISION OF TEXAS CONSTitution ARTICLE IV AND PAGE Sixty Sixth SECTION WHEREAS THERE HAS BEEN CONSIDERED TO BE NO CLAIM OR SPECIFIC FILING REQUESTED BY ANY PERSON DOING BUSINESS IN THAT AREA NOR IS THERE ANY PUBLIC NOTICE OR INFORMATION ARISING OUT FROM THAT TIME UNTIL NOW WHICH CAN PRECLUDE OUR DECISION BUT WE VIEW IT AS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE A FINDINGS REGARDING THIS MATTER SO LONG AS SUCH INFORMATION IS NOT OBTAINED THROUGH FALSE OR MISLEADING MEANINGS WHEN CONTACTED BY US
