Murphy, Texas is the birthplace of the high capacity kit (HCK) program. The HCK program was initiated by Murphy Mayor Tim Hudak in 2006 to increase the availability of clean water and improve public health in the city. The HCK program has since been developed into a statewide effort with similar goals across Texas. The HCK program began with a $1 million investment from Murphy mayor Tim Hudak and state legislators. In 2007, Murphy became the first city in Texas to deploy an HCK system. At its peak, the HCK system provided over 1 million gallons of drinking water per day to more than 350 homes and businesses in Murphysville, Cleveland and other neighborhoods. The success of the HCK Program has led to other cities throughout Texas deploying HCCMs. In December 2016, Houston becamethe third municipality in Texas to Deploy an HCCM System – this followed Austin’s deployment in 2014 and Dallas’ deployment in 2013.
