Gun targets have been a part of the Murphy community for over 100 years. When the first guns were brought to this area by settlers, they used natural targets such as deer, rabbits, and pigs. However, due to the severity of 1875’s drought, most people in Murphyartery didn’t own firearms until after World War II. The first handgun target contest was held in 1951 and it was won by Waco Rifle Club member John Lewis. thereafter many local shooting clubs started taking part in the event which has grown into a popular tradition in the town. Today, there are several different types of gun targets available for purchase or rent at various locations throughout Murphy. Target shooters from all around the country come to participate in these contests, which give people an opportunity to experience some really unique NRA target matches that are not found anywhere else on Earth!
When it comes to target shooting, there are a few things you always have to remember. The first is that your firearm must be lined up so that the muzzle is pointing in the same direction as your aimed shot. Second, make sure that you are hitting the target at an angle that will cause it to go down (ie., aim for a high spot). Third, use common sense when taking aim and hold your breath when firing. Finally, practice regularly – even if you don’t hit every time – so you become comfortable with the gun and how to fire it. Here are some tips on how to improve your accuracy: 1) Keep your firearm clean and free of any obstructions such as lint or feathers. This will help keep the barrel oiled and free from rusting or affecting accuracy. 2) Be familiar with all aspects of the rifle’s operation including cocking the hammer back until it feels “solid” then pulling the trigger; this will load/fire the weapon automatically. Do not try to do this yourself! If everything seems correct before pulling the trigger, congrats but most people cock their rifles too much by feel rather than by sight (the brain doesn’t really get used toized until afterimages leave our retina). Murphy, Texas is home to the oldest gun shop in the Lone Star State. The store was founded in 1871 by W. T. Murphy and his son, J. C. Murphy. It closed in 1980 but reopened in 1990 as the Murphy Gun Shop & Museum. In 1998, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
