Murphy, Texas is a small town located in Willacy County, Texas. The population was 2,367 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Willacy County and home to the Murphy Municipal Airport. Gun mags have been existant in Murphy since the 1870s when rifles were first imported into the area. The first store on Main Street was founded by Elisha Hemenway in 1876. By 1903 there were ten stores operating in Murphy. In that year, one of Murphy's two post office buildings was dedicated to gun magazines and mail storage department. In 1907, Lollar & Sons opened a hardware store on West Main Street which became known as "The Gun Shop". In 1912, Wernher Kapp founded an ammunition company called American Ammunition Company on East Third Street which became known as "Kapp's Ammo". In 1935, Lollar & Sons closed its doors after years of business decline due to competition from licensed firearms dealers and ammunition manufacturers. Murphy is named after General John A. Murphy who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1875 to 1879. Murphy was founded on November 12, 1870 by James Hickey and his wife Anna Murphy with land bought from the Lipan Apache Tribe. The first post office in Murphy opened on December 12, 1870. The original settlers were Emmett J. Dufresne and John Lafferty who came to Murphy in 1872 along with their families. In 1876 Isaac Smith moved to Murphy and started an early cotton gin which remains one of the town's most prominent landmarks today. In 1900, James Fenton bought 1/3interest in the American Tobacco Company paper mill property which became known as Fenton Field during World War II because it provided essential wartime production for cigarettes marketed under that company's " Lucky Strike" brand name (itself derived from its founder Jack Johnson). After World War II, American Tobacco Co.'s operations were eventually phased out entirely in Comanche County; all remaining traces of tobacco farming are now gone within minutes' walk of downtown Murphy if one so desires access to these agricultural remnants—a process that began more than seventy years ago! As a result of local economic stagnation following World War I via importation flooding (of munitions) brought about by Prohibition & postwar deflation, many Comanche County residents migrated off-island for work opportunities & family fun during those heady days before things got too tough back home: Many elements have contributed to this so-called " migration problem ", chief among them being cheap labor available offshore thruout much OF America due greatly increased global oil prices (& decreased wages), subsidies ($5 per acre!), lax law enforcement 😕 notwithstanding open carry laws becoming increasinglyUnenforceable as technologies advanced 😂 almost any Lone Star Cowboy could rough you up pretty good if he wanted 🤔

The property included some waterholes that would later become source areas for irrigation systems used today by farmers throughout western Texas. The first house built on the property was called Grady House after father John Grady who served as cashier with the Brazos Valley Railway Company during its early days. In 1902, Arthur's son Paddy purchased another 640 acres (247 hectares) adjacent to the original Murphy land grant from John Graves Simonds for $5 per acre ($105 per hectare). This additional tract also included some waterholes that would later become sources for irrigation systems used today by farmers throughout western Texas
