Mount Pleasant is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what became Mount Pleasant was James Mclntyre in 1851. He and his family moved from Illinois to East Liverpool, Ohio in 1851 and platted a ranch there. In 1857, he sold his land to David Cone and John Sowell for $1,000. In 1861, the Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee attacked Fort Hood on May 24th with 800 men and 3 cannons (the only military engagement of the Civil War in which cavalry played an important role). The Union army under Ulysses S. Grant responded with 4 cannon fire that killed 11 soldiers and wounded 25 others before withdrawing without offering any resistance; this event is known as "The Battle of Mount Pleasant". In 1865, Mount Pleasant was incorporated as a town by order of Governor Henry Clay Hunt along with unincorporated communities around it including Canandaigua (now Livingston), Pflugerville, Vernon Hills/Westwood Village/Green Oaks Heights/Eastlake Highlands/Newport Beach Naval Air Station (now Alamo Air Force Base), Westhope Manor (now Weatherford) and Ratliff Manor (later renamed Springdale). In 1898 when railroads were extended into Central Texas through Dallas-Fort Worth they reached Mount Pleasant via Waco where they built the first railroad station west of Wichita Falls; passenger service began on December 17th but ended on January 2nd due to weather conditions caused by a tornado that struck Dallas on December 15th. A new terminal was built at what is now Downtown Mount Pleasant for the new line but no trains ran because of lack of money until 1915 when US Airways Corporation established its headquarters there so passenger service resumed using their own locomotives rather than using Waco's old equipment which had been donated to them by Houston Railroad Company president George Houston who also served as chairman of US Airways Corporation during its early years. Passenger service continued until 1946 when Amtrak took over operation from American Airlines after World War II ended; Amtrak discontinued operations at Downtown Mountpleasant on October 14th 2006 citing budget cuts but continue services outlying stations such as Alpine or Grapevine.. Today Mtpleasant has returned back to it old self with proud people like Mayor Donny Hill who maintain all community businesses while current Mayor Jesse Morales keeps our city running smoothly keeping our schools open while maintaining our historic buildings

Mount Pleasant, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and is part of the Houston–The Woodlands metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1845 by James Bowie and other settlers, after they abandoned Brazoria County for what was then Mount Pleasant Creek Township. On July 1, 1850, the town became a county seat with a population of 514 people when Brazoria County was divided into two parts – Harris County and Montgomery County. In 1875, Mount Pleasant incorporated as a city. The population reached 2,500 by 1910 but declined to 1,600 by 1930 due to immigration from Mexico and other eastern countries. By 1945 the city had shrunk to its current size of around 100 people due tooming Japanese American citizens during World War II who were interned at Camp Wisdom in neighboring Baytown. Since becoming an independent city Mount Pleasant has experienced several surges in its economy including manufacturing (especially textiles), agriculture ( chiefly cotton), real estate development (both office space and homes), tourism (particularly golfing) and professional sports teams such as the Astros and Rangers/Rockets. In 2006-2007 the MtPpleasant Arts Festival drew nearly 350 artists from all over Houston to exhibit their art at various venues throughout downtown while also featuring food trucks available for purchase onsite that day only
Mount Pleasant was a small town in San Antonio County, Texas, located on the east side of the Hill Country. The first post office at Mount Pleasant was established in 1892. The population of Mount Pleasant was 2,898 in 1910. By 1920, the population had increased to 4,059 and by 1930 it had reached 5,121. In 1940 the population reached 6,521. The last census taken in 2010 reported that there were 8,401 residents of Mount Pleasant.
