Mount Pleasant is a census-designated place in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is located on the eastern edge of Medina County and borders Caldwell County to the north and east, Orange County to the south, and LaGrange County to the west. The community was founded by German immigrant Gottlieb Neumann in 1881 as a small farming village near present day Midlothian. It grew rapidly due to its location on a key railroad line connecting Dallas and Fort Worth and its access to timberlands for logging. The community's name derives from Dutchman Pieter Post's suggestion that it be called "Mt pleasant" (Pleasant mountain). In 1916, when Mount Pleasant became part of Medina County, it had a population of just over 100 people. By 1920, there were 553 residents living in Mountpleasant with most residing in two large blocks: Post Road/Highway 67 and Park Lane/Upper White Oak Creek Road. In 1962, when Medina Countys annexation of Caldwell County caused some growth within Mountpleasant limits (the annexed area now includes much of La Grange), then-mayor Don Hardwick ordered all businesses within town limits closed until he could inspect their operations. When he found that several businesses had not met state health codes regarding air quality or noise levels - including one which emitted an unhealthy level of asbestos - he reopened them without further notice only to find that many residents had left for greener pastures elsewhere in the county. The closure effectively killed off any hope of continued development within town Limits until redevelopment began along I-10 in the late 1990s and 2000s when new homes began being built within townlimits across from Interstate 10 en route to nearby Cedar Hill Rancho Estates . Today mountpleasant continues as an agricultural center with nearly 300 farms working around 3 million acres (120 km²) of landmaintenance farmland produces crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, fruits & vegetables; cattle ranching; butterflypests; pigeon hunting;and duck hunting through Novice Duck Hunting Season each fall climaxing with Jim Crow Days during Feb 8 thru Apr 4th
