There has been a history of shooting protection in Mount Pleasant, Texas since the 1800s. Some of the earliest references to shooters in this area can be found in the 1847 Treaty of Paris between United States and Mexico. It was during that time that Mexican forces invaded and occupied Texas, leading to the signing of the treaty which provided for mutual protection between both countries. The treaty also stated that each side must provide their own Shot Tower or watchtower, which is still standing today as a reminder of the agreement. The first rifle owner in Mount Pleasant was Isaac Goodloe, who settled here around 1800. He may have been responsible for building one of the first shotguns in America. Goodloe’s shotgun became known as “The Rocket” because it could fire a projectile up to 50 feet away from its gunstock- making it perfect for use by farmers and other rural residents who needed to protect themselves from Native Americans. In 1851, John Witherspoon set up shop on Second Street in Mount Pleasant and began selling firearms and ammunition to settlers throughout Central Texas. By 1859, Witherspoon had built his own plot of land near present-day Spring Branch Boulevard and San Antonio Avenue- becoming one of the first businesses in town. This location served as his home until his death in 1895. During this time period, Mount Pleasant also saw some notable shootings – most notably those carried out by John Wesley Powell during his 1913 expedition through Wyoming Valley National Forest (now part of Colorado). As Powell traveled downrange from Cutthroat Gulch into Jackson Hole National Park he encountered several groups of Indians living off trail within miles of Highway 13- one such group being led by Chief Joseph Red Cloud himself! Unfortunately for Powell and his men at least two shots were fired at them before they got close enough not to get shot! In fact, only four people were killed outright during this event; three soldiers (Powell himself including guide Kit Carson)plus red Cloud himself! Although Powell never directly harmed any Indian members thereof he did cause significant damage (including capture/murdering 6 individuals)during what would come to be known as The Battle Of Little Big Horn–a tragedy that remains Unforgivable on American soil today!

The population of Mount Pleasant was 1,500 as of 2010. The first people to live in what is now Mount Pleasant were the Comanche Indians. They arrived in 1836 and named the area after their home village, "Mt. Pleasant." In 1847, migrant farmers from Kentucky settled on property near present-day Mount Pleasant and began to cultivate rice fields. By 1861, there were 12 buildings in Mountpleasant—nine log cabins and five frame buildings—and 100 residents. In 1862, Confederate General Robert E Lee moved his headquarters from Richmond to Fort Worth and decided to abandon any attempt at an Invasion of Texas. However, he continued to keep communication with his headquarters by means of a secret telegraph line that ran between Fort Worth and Richmond. On April 14, 1865, four days after Confederate General Jubal Early's successful Attack on Goldsboro Church, Robert E Lee ordered his army to retreat back into Virginia without battle because he knew that if he fought against President Abraham Lincoln's Union army he would be executed by hanging at Appomattox Court House (now Petersburg). On October 3rd 1865 - exactly one year after Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House - citizens of Mountpleasant gathered around theirLog Cabin #1 & 2to view the lastibles items being carted off during the surrender ceremony conducted by Captain John Neely supervised by Col John Sweeny Some items seen include: A cannonball found lodged under a bed; A Confederate soldier’s sword which had been inscribed “To my sweetest wife who has borne me three children”; An American flag which had been flown over Ft Houston Prior to Surrender

Mount Pleasant is a town in Haskell County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by John Fenton in 1871 as a station on the Santa Fe Railroad and it became an important cotton center during the early years of the American Civil War. Mount Pleasant supplied Confederate forces with food and supplies, and some residents also worked for Union General Ulysses S. Grant's army. After the war ended, Mount Pleasant grew rapidly as businesses began to open up and its citizens developed a heavy agricultural dependency on wheat and other crops grown in nearby Wichita Falls. By 1920, however, Mount Pleasant had lost much of its significance due to changing trends in agriculture and industry; today it remains a small townsfolk-dominated community with few commercial strips or restaurants. Mountpleasant was platted in 1871 by John Fenton while working on the Santa Fe Railroad near present day Wichita Falls. At first it was called "Fenton Station" because only men were allowed to use Fenton's land for farming purposes. The name changed to "Mount Pleasant" after two years when settlers realized that there would be many people living near this strategic location given its excellent access to water resources for irrigation purposes - something that had not been possible earlier within rural Haskell County where ground cover limited movement of waterbodies away from rivers beds Fenton sold his holdings in 1916 to local entrepreneur James Auerbach who began developing what would become Mount Pleasant into one of America's leading cotton plantations during World War I; Auerbach lost large sums of money due to conflict with other landowners but he built up what is now one of America's largest cotton growers dynasty which continues today under their son Forrest Auerbach Jr.. In 1927 construction began on what would become Wichita State University; this addition has significantly enlarged Wichita Falls' population since then making it one of America's most diverse metropolitan areas – typifying both its cosmopolitan atmosphere (many students come from all over), as well as its growing economy which derives significant benefits from KSU's proximity to majorHouston metropolitan area employers such as ExxonMobil and Sam Houston State University In 1977 Forbes magazine listed Mountpleasant alongside neighboring Cisco City, San Antonio(then known as Travis County) and Waco (now McLennan County) as part of Texas' Top 10 Small Towns In 1982 Buffalo Bayou east of town served as host site for the world’s first cross-country running race between North America’s top runners–the US Masters Marathon . That same year Buffalo Bayou became home to Kansas Wesleyan University which relocated from Overland Park KS after decades serving adjacent Hays Community College As recently as 2006 flood damage caused by Hurricane Rita destroyed portions of downtown MtPleasant including several churches dating back more than 100 years .. However recent investment by new management has brought about restoration efforts including reopening churches parish-by-parish beginning February 2007

In 1887, the town received an electric lights system from New York City and soon became one of the leading centers for light production in Texas. The town's population reached 10,000 by 1912 and 20,000 by 1915. In 1916, Mount Pleasant became one of the first towns in Texas to be incorporated as a city. The population peaked at 45,000 in 1930 but declined over the next few decades as various industrial plants were built in nearby cities. In recent years, however, the city has slowly regained some of its former glory as it has seen growth in tourism and foodservice industries.
