The town of Mount Pleasant, Texas was founded in 1847 by a group of settler farmers. The community rapidly grew and soon became known for its agricultural products, such as cotton, corn, cattle and hogs. Today, Mount Pleasant is a small but thriving community with a population of around 150 residents. Mount Pleasant is situated on the banks of the Arkansas River near the eastern edge of the Ute Mountains. The town was built on land that had been donated by local ranchers and settlers. The first permanent structures were built in 1849 and included a schoolhouse, storeroom and barn. By 1870, there were six houses in Mount Pleasant. In 1876, Mount Pleasant become one of the original towns along the Texas-Oklahoma border. That year, it became apparent that American Indians were threatening to drive settlers out of the area. A group of men from Mount Pleasant set out to protect their homes and property. In what is now called "The Battle at Fort Cobb", they successfully defended themselves against Native Americans who tried to evict them from their land. Today, Mountpleasant is home to a number of businesses including an hotel/motel complex and two shopping malls which are respectively named Plaza Grande Mall and Towne Center Mall. Additionally, there are several churches located in the town center as well as public schools which serve students from preschool through grade 12th grade.

Mount Pleasant (also known as Mount Pleasant Station) is a small town located in Marshall County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1876 by John Denton and his family. In 1951, it became a part of the Houston metropolitan area. The first settlers to the area were men from Kentucky who came overland through Tomball Prairie on their way to Cypress Creek Colony in 1872. They built a log cabin and hunted buffalo near present-day Mount Pleasant. A post office was established at Mount Pleasant in 1876, and mail was carried between Mt. Pleasant and Houston until 1907 when the railroad arrived and took over the function of postal service. In 1951, Houston annexed Mount Pleasant into its city limits making it an incorporated town withinHouston proper without having to apply for annexation again. At that time, Mountpleasant had a population of 1,947 people with 1,463 households and 95 businesses including three banks and two grocery stores serving the community of just under 4,000 people which included about one-third of all business activity in Harris County during that time frame according to unofficial figures from 1990-2000 given by then Mayor Annise Parker's campaign website . Since annexation there have been various efforts made to bring back more cultural aspects of life within the community such as restoring abandoned homes or hosting traditional mountaintop festivals but these have all failed so far due largely to lack of support from elected officials or private entrepreneurs looking to capitalize on nostalgia rather than actually improve local conditions
In 1836, the Republic of Texas was organized and it became a slave state. Mount Pleasant began to be developed as an agricultural community in the late 1800s. The community was founded by white settlers in the 1840s, and its name comes from a nearby mountain. By 1860, Mount Pleasant had a population of about 1,000 people. It remained an agricultural community until after World War II when it became a bedroom town for Dallas.
