Mount Pleasant, Texas is a small town located in the Texan Panhandle region. The population was 2,027 at the 2000 census and 2,376 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is home to Texas A&M University and its Aggie football team. The largest employer in Mount Pleasant is A&M Service Company which employs over 350 people. Since then, Mtpleasant has seen some growth with an addition of 3 new homes and a restaurant called "The Creamy Low Rider". Mount Pleasant is also known for its annual Peach Festival which takes place on Labor Day weekend each year.
The first permanent settler in Mount Pleasant was Johnathon Ladd, who arrived in 1837. He and his wife, Sarah, founded a log cabin on the present site of Mount Pleasant in 1840. The Ladds were the first white people to live in what is now Mount Pleasant County. They were followed by other pioneers over the next several years, and by 1845 there were twenty-one families living in Mount Pleasant. In 1847, Andrew Jenson moved from Missouri to become the first postmaster at Mount Pleasant. He was succeeded by Wm. Halsey in 1850. In 1861, the United States Post Office was established at Mountpleasant with John Atherton as postmaster. Mount Pleasant became an agricultural center during the early 1800s due to its fertile land and access to water resources. The population peaked around 1900 with about one hundred residents; however, this number decreased rapidly after World War I because of economic hardship caused by war-related production changes. However, since then there have been occasional small increases in population due to new arrivals or reunion movements of old settlers from surrounding counties
