Mount Pleasant is a small town in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo metropolitan area. Mount Pleasant is located on the Oil Field of North Dakota and contains many well-preserved pioneer buildings and other historical landmarks dating back to 1879. The first people to live in what is now Mount Pleasant were the Kiowa and Comanche Indians who had moved there from their traditional hunting grounds in present-day Oklahoma City and Wichita Falls, respectively. The Kiowa River Valley served as their main home until they were forced out by white settlers in 1859. In 1870, gold was found near Mount Pleasant and soon after a rush of people began arriving to claim it. By 1881, only about eighty residents remained in Mountpleasant; by 1890 only six families still lived there. In 1902, an oil well was drilled near Mount Pleasant which led to increased development around it; by 1915 there were over 150 businesses operating in town with a population of 2,500! In 1925 the first high school was built; allyne High School opened in 1961 and became a national model for public schools when it opened nationwide as one of the first integrated schools ever established! During World War II most of the manufacturing that took place in eastern Colorado went into production at three plants owned by Phillips Petroleum Company (PCL) at Poteau, Kansas; San Angelo, Texas; and city limits just south of Mountpleasant – these plants produced munitions including aircraft parts and engines used during World War II as well as gasoline tanks for military vehicles or warships! In 1978 Mtpleasant residents successfully organized themselves into their own Town Council which has continued to manage day-to-day affairs since then! Mount Pleasant is a town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The first permanent settler in Mount Pleasant was John Lubbock on December 12, 1836. The town was named for General Robert E. Lee's plantation in Virginia. A post office called Mount Pleasant was established in 1853, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. In 1865, Confederate general Joseph Johnston set up headquarters near Mount Pleasant and ordered his men to destroy all evidence of their presence so that they would not be detected by Union forces loyal to the Confederacy. This order caused much indignation among residents who saw it as an act of treason. On October 12, 1865, Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House without any battle taking place; this event marks the end of the American Civil War and Mount Pleasant became part of the new Union territory of Transylvania County, Texas. Mount Pleasant experienced some growth after the war but declined during Reconstruction because there were no jobs available for new settlers and few schools or churches were built due to money constraints caused by the influx of soldiers and refugees from Southern states who had settled in Texas during the war. In 1881-1882, a group of five farmers started a small mill which still flourishes today known as Old Mill No.: 3 Sqn., 255 West Main Street (now 5th & University Streets). They also founded a Baptist church which served as both a meeting place and school for local children until 1915 when school reopened at First Baptist Church #2 Sqn., 282 West Main Street (now 6th & Elm Streets). After World War II ended with Japan's entry into World War II on September 1st 1945 Mtpleasant experienced significant growth as many Japanese people moved into town seeking work opportunities during peacetime while most African Americans left because they could not find work outside their homes or because they were afraid of being drafted into wartime service like their white neighbors did. On November 8th 1951 Mtpleasant’s only store burned down leaving only one building standing after years with little fire prevention measures enacted including warning signs posted throughout town stating that burning materials should never be placed inside buildings! The following year on January 5th 1952 Mtpleasant’s only two schools – Stonington Elementary School (#1) and Woodrow Wilson Middle School (#2) – reopening after more than two years closure due to lack of funding from state government forced by Governor Ross Perot to give priority to other priorities such as highways and social welfare programs over education which he felt would benefit all Texans including those living within convenient urban areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area where enrollment surpassed rural districts by 20% between 1950-1951 alone! despite these efforts however classes continued to be held at both schools until 1969 when both facilities were sold off[1] One interesting note about this time period is that while prior systems failed due largely to neglect or lackADA compliance,[2] Texarkana Independent School District had opened up shop offering pre-kindergarten through grade twelve public Schools pursuant To State Board Rule 179(a)(3)[3],[4],[5],[6],[7], making education available even unto young children within easy reach for families unable or unwilling/unable/too costly either financially or physically to attend traditional public schools located miles away! given recent trends we can safely say that Mount pleasant has slowly recovered from its previous economic downturn sinceTexarkana ISD offered services long beyond district mandate
Mount Pleasant was founded in 1847 by Andrew Jackson. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who had been the President of the United States at the time of its founding. In 1880, Mount Pleasant became a county seat and it is still the capital of Polk County today.
