The white settlers who arrived there soon realized that this location had great potential as a center for trade and transportation because of its strategic location between Houston and Dallas. In 1865, General James Jackson Mount, an American military general and congressman from Texas who had played a significant role in defeating Mexico during the Mexican-American War, purchased land east of present-day downtown Houston for $5 million dollars to create what would become known as Mount Pleasant Township. With this purchase, mountable land became available in the heart ofHouston and commenced construction on what would eventually become one of the most important townships in Harris County. During Reconstruction Period (1868-1893), many African Americans migrated to Mountpleasant from various parts of Texas to escape Jim Crow laws that were instituted by Confederate forces during the American Civil War. This migration increased when Congress passed the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which defined slavery as an institution abolished throughout America’s Union. Many blacksmiths, farmers, mechanics and other tradesmen left their homes behind to start new lives in what would be called “the black Hundreds”—a term used first by planter families to describe their black slaves who lacked education or skills necessary for farm work – but also a community where they could mix with whites without fear of retribution or violence from either group. businesses such as grocery stores and restaurants opened up along Interstate 10; local churches began providing services such as Sunday school; schools started educating children about social customs such as how to dance properly so they wouldn’t attract attention from white men; job opportunities grew available thanks to railroad connections; and residents began enjoying access to public health care clinics located just outside their doors while still able keep some privacy within their homes due to racism still extant at that time

Mount Pleasant is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,052 at the 2000 census. The Mount Pleasant Historic District is a registered historic district that covers parts of the town of Mount Pleasant and surrounding towns. The first settlers to the area now known as Medina County were Adam and Rebecca Cook who settled on what is now College Station (now part of Waco) in 1795. John Hogg also established a farm in what is now Medina County in 1814. In 1836, James Bowie founded Bowieville on the east edge of Medina County, later renamed Mount Pleasant after him. In 1859, General Sam Houston built his home at Huntsville on Buffalo Bayou and became its first Mayor. A year later he moved his headquarters to Mount Pleasant from Huntsville because it offered more space for operations. By 1865, there were over 200 residents in Mount Pleasant and 100 businesses had been organized into two commercial districts - Clarksville & Huntsville to the north and East Jackson to the south - which served as their economic engines until after World War II when they withered away due to economic consolidation by larger towns within Medina County. However, by 1899 there still remained some 350 residents active in business in Mountpleasant with an average income of $8 per capita according to government censuses from that time period; there was no formal school system until 1907 when East Jackson Elementary School opened its doors followed by Richards High School (1910) which changed its name toMount Pleasant Junior-Senior High School in 1924 based on enrollment growth rates among nearby students attending then-eastside Richards high schools; Castro Valley Elementary School opened its doors just outside of town limits serving grades K-5 (1963), while newest addition West Side Intermediate School opened its doors serving grades 6-8 (1999). On December 15th 1901 Union Pacific Railroad donated land rich with coal seams near what is now Interstate 35W between Waco and Temple City providing new impetus for development around this key transportation artery with UPRR president David Dudley announcing plans for what would become "the most important center west of Wichita" during a public meeting at Masonic Hall attended by many prominent citizens including Judge McGee Hughes who represented Baylor University's Stakeholders Committee responsible for railroad regulation; plans soon evolved into today's city limits with Dudley proclaiming "Erecting upon this site one or more large buildings capable of houseing thousand families will be our primary object". Fifty acres was purchased from Jourdan Randolph located northeast corner of present day IH 10/UPRR line running east past Temple City onto Buffalo Bayou opposite current day North Main Street where Dudley’s building now stands housing Federal Reserve Bank employees - yet another sign that downtown mount pleasant was not only developing rapidly but also becoming increasingly Hispanicized given today's wider boundaries extending beyond Rice Road/IH 10 boundaries into today's neighborhoods serving much older Mexican American populations than did those early white settler communities circumscribed primarily within MtPleasant has ever allowed! It wasn't until 1959 when downtown mountpleasant experienced another milestone when Mr./Mrs./Girlfriends Armandine Casasini & Angelo Russo purchased 3 lots directly across Buffalo Bayou from Mr./Mrs./Girlfriends Dudleys original construction site property adjoining Mrs./Dudleys home originally intending never again having occasioned such intense development across their back yard thereby preserving face value upon purchase along modestly sized lot sizes averagingapproximately .75 acre +/- each prior thereto approximately .25 acres being added subsequent thereto creating currently vacant ..... lot next door adjacent owner removed structure leaving original 2 story brick structure vestigial remnant remaining showing few recent alterations since 1900-2001 photo taken circa 1990
