A post office was established at Mount Pleasant in 1886, and remained in operation until 1953. In 1905, George Waddell organized an agricultural society which grew into an oil company nearby known as Waddell Oil Company No 2 (WO2). When Capron (later Chevron) began production along I-20 near Wichita Falls five miles east of Mountpleasant, WO2 became one of its primary customers because its products could not be shipped by rail or truck due to high shipping rates charged by other companies at that time. The company gradually lost business to Chevron until its closure in 1984; then the land reverted back to agriculture with nooned plans for housing development beginning only after that date according to current proprietor Don Howlett's research into local history books when he contacted me about developing this property approximately 25 years ago while we both lived on adjoining parcels adjacent thereto).
