The mayor at that time was Vinson Sweeting and the Assemblywoman was Jane Tucker-Cameron. In 1957, Mount Pleasant passed an ordinance regulating gun shows and exhibitions. This law required exhibitors to have liability insurance and maintain records of each show attendance and any damages done to property during events. In 1966, Mountpleasant became the first city in Texas to pass an ordinance prohibiting Assault Weapons like AK-47s or AR-15s without a license from the manufacturer/dealer/writer (MIL). this law also prohibited anyone under 21 years old from owning or possessing an Assault Weapon without parental consent

Mount Pleasant is a small town located in rural Joaquin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies on FM 521 and TX-1196 north of Waco. The area that now makes up Mount Pleasant was first settled by Scots immigrants in the early 1800s. Scottish mossy hills were seen as a great place to build a new home because the moss would create insulation from the harsh weather. The Scots named their land "Mount Pleasant" after one of their most famous leaders, General James Robertson (1763-1828). In 1881, when Waco became an incorporated municipality, Mount Pleasant's post office was moved from its original location two miles south to what is now downtown Waco. In 1905, when Dallas County was formed and included Joaquin County, Mount Pleasant became part of Dallas County too. The last resident of Mountpleasant died in 1990. Today only a few scattered buildings remain standing in what once was a vibrant town center full of shops and businesses.

The towns of Mount Pleasant, Texas were founded in 1851 by men who had come to the area from Ohio. The town was named for General James B. Mount and his wife, Rebecca. The first store in the town was built on what is now Second Street. In 1853, the first school in Mount Pleasant was built and that year also saw the community's first sale of goods from a wagon road. In 1865, a post office was established in Mount Pleasant and by 1870, the population had grown to about 100 people. By 1880, there were nine stores and five schools in the community. In 1903, an oil well was drilled near Mount Pleasant and production began soon thereafter. The town experienced rapid growth during this time as more businesses sprang up to take advantage of the new industry. By 1915,Mount Pleasant had become a significant economic center with sixteen businesses employing around 200 people. It also boasted two churches - one Congregationalist and one Baptist - as well as six residences belonging to prominent citizens including two generals and three senators. During World War I, Mountpleasant played an important role as a training ground for American troops before they were sent off to fight in Europe. In 1921, changes began to take place within society at large with increasing calls for social change throughout America leading up to World War II which resulted in many local shops closing their doors due to increased competition from larger businesses across the country. However, over time some of these small business owners have been able to rebuild their businesses thanks largely to support from friends and family members who remain committed thereto today
Mount Pleasant is a small town in Angelina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1873 by Scots-Irish immigrants who named their community for Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the nearby mountain.
