Mount Pleasant is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,557 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. In 1934, Mount Pleasant became the first municipality in Hudspeth County to be incorporated as a village. The town was founded by James Hargrave and his brother-in-law George Washington Hill on July 10, 1857 as a small hamlet within present day Mount Pleasant Township. The name "Mount Pleasant" was probably derived from an Indian word meaning "place where two rivers merge." By 1881, Mount Pleasant had grown to include all of what is now Hudspeth County except for the portions of north Austin that were annexed by Round Rock in 1901. In 1934, Mountpleasant became the first municipality in Hudspeth County to be incorporation as a village when it was granted charter status by then-governor Allan Fenton. At its inception, Village Of Mountpleasant consisted of just over 100 residents and included only one street - Main Street - which ran east-west across center town square. However, due to its early days as an unincorporated community and lack of facilities or services available to residents such as water supply or public transportation,Village Of Mountpleasant quickly outgrew its meager resources and fell behind schedule in making progress towards becoming an actual community with full government rights and responsibilities. Despite this slow start and some shortcomings over time - most notably including a shortsighted decision notto expand Community Services District services beyond providing water service into neighboring townships during the late 1990s recession – by 2002 Village Of Mountpleasant had reached its maximum population size (1xx7) with plans underway for even more growth over the next few years thanks to donations from individuals and businesses throughout Hudspeth County; additional land acquisition; support from state legislators during the 2006 legislative session; favorable economic conditions across much of central Texas following Hurricane Katrina; and finally strong volunteerism on behalf of local leaders who continue working hard every day since then to make sure that Village Of Mount pleasant remains a thriving community today well into tomorrow
