Mount Pleasant is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Mount Pleasant were two Spanish traders, Pedro de Alvarado and Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, in 1541. In 1836, Antonio López Caballero established a rancho (land grant) called Rancho Gutierrez in what is now Mount Pleasant. From this rancho developed much of the early history of Mount Pleasant. In 1839, John Crain built a mill on Lavaca Creek in what is now Mount Pleasant. This mill became one of the most important businesses in town and played an important role in developing the economy of Mountpleasant during its early years. In 1862, Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston attacked Fort Hood near Mount Pleasant and burned most of it before withdrawing northward to Arkansas. This event helped set off a statewide cotton boycott that lasted for several months. During World War II, local farmers produced food for U.S troops stationed nearby at Camp Bowie and Fort Sam Houston located on Sawmill Hill Road east of town proper. Mount Pleasant was incorporated as a municipality on February 14th, 1907 by Order from Governor James Hogg.. The original plat map dated November 10th 1902 showed only three streets - Main Street south to US Highway 183 (now Johnson Lane), Second Street east from Main to Depot Road (now Slaughter Road), and Third Street north from Depot to Cemetery Rd.. These streets were later widened into four lanes with names which still remain today: First Avenue (now Johnson Lane), Second Avenue (now Slaughter Road), Third Avenue (now Cemetery Rd.), and Fourth Avenue ((today's US Highway 183)). On July 5th 1906 the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill No.(8) which provided for incorporation of all unincorporated areas within Webb County including parts of present day Mountain View Drive Southwest corner just west side street running between courtyards then turning left hand side southerly past post office thence North 1/2 miles as far as Blanco post office thence West 1/2 miles without any stop or turn

Mount Pleasant is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It was founded in 1881 by John H. Rankin and others as a small community on the banks of the Navarro River. The name derives from Mount Pleasant Township, in which it was located. The first post office in Mount Pleasant opened in 1881 and remained open until 1907. In 1889, the town's first store and mill were built. By 1895, Mount Pleasant had a school, jail, Methodist church, Masonic lodge and two stores. In 1896-97 a cotton gin was built and became an important part of Mountpleasant's economy for many years; it remains in use today as a grocery store. A new courthouse was built in 1902 and added to the townscape. In 1915-16 an air raid destroyed most of Mountpleasant but left many buildings standing including the cotton gin used before World War I; it is still extant today as the centerpiece of downtown Mountpleasant. The bombing also caused significant damage to homes throughout town; some have been rebuilt since then but most remain intact as historic landmarks or tourist attractions
Mount Pleasant was founded by Capt. James Robertson in 1824 as the trading post of Pecos County. In 1828, the town of Mount Pleasant was founded by A. G. Hill and named for his plantation on the east bank of the Arkansas River at its mouth. The original store, school and court house were built there. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell besieged Mount Pleasant during the Battle of Missionary Ridge and burned the town tothe ground before retreating southward. The inhabitants rebuilt their homes around a new courthouse which was completed in 1868. The first Baptist church building was erected in Mount Pleasant in 1881 and it remains one of Texas' most prominent religious institutions to this day.
