Midwest Chemical Corporation built its first plant there in 1923 followed by Texaco that built its second refinery in 1929 before becoming ExxonMobil until it merged into Mobil Incorporated in 2006. The site now includes many small businesses clustered around MidtownHouston's four central business districts: DowntownFort Worth; North Dallas; South Dallas; and WestDallas/Midway roundabout area where most services are located including hospitals, churches, schools, libraries., grocery stores,, etc.– four districts that have grown together since then forming one large mixed-use district called "DowntownFortworth". A new $350 million mixed-use redevelopment project is under way called" MidtownHouston 2030" which will include hundreds of residential units as well as commercial space and continue streetscaping within MidtownHouston while also creating opportunities for education and cultural programming such as a performing arts center,.
