Gun sights have been used in Missouri City, Texas for over a century. The first gun sights were erected by the city in 1881. The site of today’s gun sights is located on Third Street between Market and Elm Streets. This location was chosen because it was close to where guns were auctioned off and there was enough space for both shooters and buyers to stand around. In 1889, the first rifle range in Missouri City opened its doors. Gun sights have been around for centuries, and there are many different types of them. The most common type is the crosshair, which is a line that you see on firearms to help shooters aim. There are also dot sights, which use small dots to aim; and fish-eye sights, which use a large lens to see over the gun's barrel and sight in on your target. There were several different designs forgun sights before they became standardized. One was called an " Oracle", which was designed by George Stephenson in 1814. It consisted of a circular disk with three lines radiating out from it, used to direct gunfire into specific directions. Another early design was the Weaver Sight (1824), which had four circles that rotated about an axis perpendicular to the borescope tube used to sight in on your target. The first true archery guns were built in the 15th century BC using devices called “sightpostes” or “pistol sights” – posts that jutted out of the ground so that arrows could be shot at targets close up without having them bounce off the surface of the earth (see Figure 1). These sighting devices allowed marksmen to hit their targets quickly and accurately because they could rely only on their eyesight rather than guesswork or reliance on other factors such as wind direction or weather conditions.
In 1875, a team of engineers from the United States Bureau of Ordnance designed and built the first practical 3-inch (76.2mm) breech loading rifle, the US Rifle model 1875. The weapon had a 3-round magazine and was fired by means of a lever-action shotgun action with a round in the chamber that was extracted by an extractor on the bottom of the barrel. In 1898, American inventor Benjamin Banneker developed and patented a device called an alligator clip which allowed quick reloading of firearms using cartridges stored in detachable boxes along one side of the firearm's stock. This innovation helped increase firepower for cavalry and artillery during World War I by allowing them to fire more rounds per minute than they could before.
Missouri City was founded in 1836 by John Cline. It was the first town in what is now Texas and it became a major center for cattle ranching and cotton farming. The town population grew rapidly, reaching over 10,000 by 1870. However, the economic boom of the late 1800s caused many people to move away from Missouri City because of job opportunities in larger towns. The town declined during the 20th century, but has since regained some of its former prominence as a cultural and commercial center.
The town of Missouri City, Texas was founded in 1836 by James P. Hogg and his brother-in-law, David S. Dixon. The town served as a military post during the Mexican-American War and was also the location of the first school in Texas. The town's population increased rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to its natural resources and growing industry. In 1925, Missouri City became an incorporated city under the name of Houston Heights.
