Hispanic or Latino Americans made up 4% of the population while Asian Americans constituted 0%. As reported on election night 2008: white voters 54%, black voters 31%, latinoamerican citizens 5%, asian citizens 3%. Of note: only 5% identify themselves as “indigenous” – this descriptor includes all those who self-identify as Mexican or Spanish-American rather than Native American or Anglo-Saxon

In 1836, a group of Texans led by General Sam Houston journeyed through Missouri City to survey the area for a new capital. They chose the site because it was close to Fort Worth and had good land available. The city began growing rapidly and within a few years had become one of the largest in Texas. In 1839, the legislature created a state government in Missouri City and it continued to grow until it became an independent state in 1907.
