A number of other French and Mexican missionaries established settlements here during this time, and the local cattle ranchers developed a large ranching industry. The town experienced its first growth as a commercial center in the 1920s when immigrants from Mexico began to arrive here to work on ranches and farms. In addition, several oil companies located in nearby Houston started looking for new sites for their drilling rigs. As a result, business grew rapidly in Mission during these years. However, by 1940 most of the original ranching and farming businesses had been replaced by heavy industry. And although many people remain resident in Mission today, its fate has changed markedly since that time – it is now one of the fastest-growing towns in Texas! One of the primary reasons why Mission has seen such rapid growth over recent decades is its excellent location: just minutes away from both Houston’s downtown area and major highways leading into Texarkana and Austin. After Mexican independence from Spanish rule in 1821, many Hidalgos who fought for Mexico chose to stay and fight for their own country rather than return home. This group of men and women united under the leadership of Fray José de Zúñiga to form what would become known as the Franciscan friars (missionaries) at San Miguel Arcángel on November 16th, 1836. At first there were only about 20 missionaries living among the citizens of San Antonio and just one small chapel. However, over time more missionaries arrived to help start new missions including La Purísima Concepción (1837), Nuestra Señora del Refugio (1839), Santiago de Compostela (1840), Asisierra (1841), Guanajuato (1842), Atrás de las Brisas(1843), Jesús en el Campo(1844), Puebla y Nuevo Mundo(April 12th, 1850) and Monterey Bay Mission on October 9th 1865. In 1840-45 there were also 2 lay brothers with additional support from some priests called “the hermits” because they spent all their time Prayerful Meditation inside a small hill near Friar Juan Bautista Alvarado’s house near Hermann Park today known as El Salto Hill). In 1846 Father José Chávez opened up La Conventación saying that he wanted to provide religious education for “citizens without children or husbands too busy working on farms or mills” so that these families could have access to spiritual guidance as well as instruction about secular lawlessness going on around them caused by bandits like Comanche Chief Quanah Parker raiding settlements throughout Texas Rivers Valley area such as San Marcos River valley etc., this led directly to present day conflict between various ranching interests within Lone Star State due to increasing competition over resources typical during frontier days leading up until statehood in 1907

Mission, Texas is a small town located in Hidalgo County, Texas. It was founded by Antonio López de Santa Anna on July 4, 1836 as the Mexican Villa of San Marcos. The first settlers were Spanish and Mescalero Native Americans who lived there for a time before Mission was founded. The name "Mission" came from the nearby hilltop mission of San José which had been converted to Christianity in 1795. The first church in Mission was built in 1832 and it served as the parish center until 1849 when another church was built. In 1867, the government established an Agricultural College at Mission and within a few years, it became one of the leading agricultural schools in America. In 1907, the college moved to Austin and remains there today as UT Austin's flagship campus. In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated what is now known as Goodyear Bluff overlooks the town to honor United States military veterans who fought during World War II. Goodyear Bluff is home to Memorial Park that contains numerous war graves dating back to both World War I and World War II. The park also includes a reconstructed walled fortification that was used between 1915-1918 by Ulysses S Grant's forces during his ill-fated attempt to capture Mexico City from Mexican General Porfirio Diaz
Mission, Texas was founded on December 2, 1836 by the Mexican Missionaries José Antonio Seguí and Manuel Armando Zavala. The town of San Marcos was founded in 1840 and the mission compound was completed in 1845. In 1848, Mission Santa Catalina was completed. A new mission compound for the La Purísima Concepción order of nuns was built in 1850 and a hospital and school were also constructed. The first church service in San Marcos took place on December 5, 1850. The primary industry of the early settlers in Mission County was agriculture with cattle being the major export product. Missions were closed from 1851-1890 due to conflict with Mexico over land ownership issues.
