Mission, Texas is a small town located in the rural area of east-central Texas. It was founded in 1836 by brothers John and James Kennedy as a cattle ranch on the banks of the Colorado River. The town grew rapidly after it became a stop on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1854, Mission was renamed for General Sam Houston because he had helped to drive Mexican forces from East Texas. In 1888, American Express began shipping goods through Mission along the old Texan Trail north to Denver. This greatly increased trade in Mission and contributed to its growth as an agricultural center. By 1915, Mission had become one of the most important transportation nodes in east-central Texas due to its location at the intersection of two major railroad lines. In 1951, when California Electric Cooperative (CEC) merged with other cooperative companies in that state, it decided to move its headquarters from San Francisco back to Austin because of city regulations that limited number of corporate head offices within a single city limits. San Francisco desiredAustin more so CEC chose Austin over Dallas because it offered better access to highway transportation and public transit systems. The decision not only impacted Austin but also neighboring towns such as Midway and Slaughtertown which were forced out of business because their businesses could not compete with those in downtown Austin or San Francisco. As a result of this rivalry between downtown Austin and southside San Antonio which played out primarily on economic grounds rather than political ones, both cities lost much population growth during the post-war period while their metropolitan areas expanded considerably

Mission, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 298 at the 2010 census, down from 496 at the 2000 census. It is part of the San Antonio-Arlington-Mission, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area and its sister cities are San Marcos and Austin. Mission has a history dating back to 1836 and contains evidence of human activity as early as 10,000 years ago. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Mission was made by Father José de la Cruz on November 16, 1836 after his arrival from New Mexico with 237 others on the "Santa Fe". In 1840 Mexican president Antonio López de Santa Anna issued an order for all men under eighteen to leave Texas for Mexico City or face execution. A group of about fifty children who had been taken along with their parents were saved by Governor Richards and returned to Mission on horseback on December 5th 1840. From then until 1847 there was no resident priest in Mission other than Father José de la Cruz himself; this period is also known as "the dark age" because there was no school, no church or hospital, and no social services available to the people of Mission. In September 1846 Padres Mariano Echeverría and José María Jáuregui arrived with eight horses from Zacatecas with orders from Santa Anna to establish Presidio de San Fernando y el Rio Grande (later Presidio del Rio Grande). The site chosen for the new presidio included parts of modern Missions including part of what is now downtown San Antonio which served as its garrison center until 1898 when it became part of Austin. The mission chapel built in 1865 still stands today within walking distance of most city neighborhoods west of Interstate 35W (the old US 281 corridor). mission's rich culture can be glimpsed throughout its many buildings which range from simple adobe huts built during Spanish colonial times up through more recent structures such as the Cathedral which has been called one of America's most beautiful churches - both inside and outside - while also housing some world renowned museums like El Escorial Palace Museum Complex which opened in 2004 adjacent to missions court house on Fifth Street across I-35W from downtownSanAntonio

These devices helped photographers make better Photos by correcting errors in captured images.

Mission is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Mission were Spanish missionaries, who arrived in 1719 and founded San Antonio de Beaumont on the present site of Mission. In 1821, Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered all missions in Chihuahua be burned except for San José (now Mexico City). However, somemission fathers managed to keep alive until 1836. In 1836, the Mexican government granted land grants to American citizens for settlement in what is now Hudspeth County. The first people to arrive were David Gillespie and his family in 1840; they named their new community after Padre Isidro Lopez de la Vega who had served as spiritual leader at Vera Cruz during that time. In 1850, John Wesley Powell became the first white person to travel upriver from Houston—the last non-native American ever to do so—and he called it "Mision." In 1860, the US Army built Fort Sam Houston on an island near Mission Bayou for its Demilitarized Zone campaign against Mexico City's pro-slavery forces; this fort remains a significant landmark today. From 1865 to 1870, Mision was used as a base by American troops fighting with local soldiers against Confederate forces occupying Texas during the Ulysses S. Grant administration’s “War Against Mexico” (1865-68). After Texas achieved its independence from Mexico on January 6th of that year (1867), many Americans left forTexas looking for Opportunity and Liberty under Ulysses S. Grant’s Reconstruction policies which aimed at restoring order following the Civil War and bringing African Americans into full participation in society as equals within limits prescribed by Northerners (Ferguson 1989: 174-175).
