One such story involved two men who were caught stealing maize from a field near present day Floresville while traveling with four other men: one man died from drowning after being swept away by rapids while trying to cross them en route back home; three others made it back safely but were captured and held hostage by Pancho Villa until they could ransom them back into Mexican hands (this event is also sometimes referred to as The Floresville Massacre); finally only one man made it back alive - he married one of Villa's daughters and returned home safe). This account was retold by Manuel Gomez Caballero in his memoir "Mi vida y su tiempo" and later popularized by author Juanita Broaddrick in her book "The Mexico Book".
