On July 14, 1836, he ordered his troops to clear the area aroundMission Ranch for pastureland. In 1880, Texas became an American state and ammunition became part of its legal system. The first store in Mission opened in 1888 and was run by Mrs. Gertrude Kempton. Ammunition company ownership changed hands several times over the years but the business continued to be operated by family members until it closed in 1984. Over time, different rounds have been used in various missions throughout this region - from .50 caliber rifle rounds that were used during World War II to “Maverick” rounds used today for target shooting events at fairs and other outdoor events. Mission, Texas is a small town located in the Midland Hills area of central Texas. The population was 2,067 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Angelo-based Williamson County district. The town was founded in 1847 by Diego Rivera and Francisco Garza as an agricultural outpost on the route between San Antonio and Austin. The first post office opened in 1851, and Mission became a full municipality in 1865. In 1924, it became an oil boomtown with over 1,000 people working in wells inside its boundaries; however, this period of growth ended within two years due to a lack of water supplies and other problems caused by Texaco's drilling operations. Mission has experienced many uprisings throughout its history: including one led by Mexican revolutionary Jose Altuve on July 14, 1848; resistance against annexation into the United States during the 1870s; and rioting after federal troops burned some homes in 1969 during Operation Pipe Dream. Mission Viejo, founded in 1835 as a mission in what is now the city of Mission Viejo, was one of the most important missions in Texas. The Spanish name for the mission was San Fernando de la Laguna and it served as a religious center for the Mexican population living in southern California. In 1836, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered the closure of all missions in California due to his concerns over Indian raids. However, San Fernando de la Laguna continued to serve as a religious center for Mexican settlers living near Los Angeles. In 1853, Mexico ceded California to the United States and Mission San Fernando became part of American soil. In 1861, when America took control of Texas, Mission San Fernando was transferred to Austin and became an important civilian and military post. The mission remained active until 1923 when it was closed due to lack of funds. Today only a few pieces of its history remain: the chapel still stands and is open to visitors; some old tools are still on display at the mission museum; and there is a small park located inside the original walls of the mission complex that features exhibits about Missions throughout Southern California
Mission, Texas is a town in the U.S. state of Texas and part of the Houston metropolitan area. The population was 7,826 at the 2010 census. It lies in Montgomery County on the east side of Houston and is about 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Dallas-Fort Worth. The original mission was founded by Pedro Martinez in 1795 as San Antonio de Bexar Mission and named for St. Anthony of Padua, who had died nearby while preaching to Native Americans. The first real settlement in what is now Mission began on March 3, 1836 when James Fenton purchased 3,000 acres (1,600 ha) near present-day MidtownHouston from José Vasquez Moreno for $5 per acre ($27 per hectare). Fenton's family name may have been derived from his father's surname "Fernandez". Fenton built two sawmills and four other pioneer businesses including a brewery and one store before he became pastor of Montrose Methodist Episcopal Church in 1851. A year later he donated land to build what would become Rice University which opened its doors on August 29, 1874 as Victoria College with missions as its cornerstone; Victoria College grew into Rice University with more than 40 buildings and anchor campuses in various cities around the world before closing its doors for good on December 5th, 2015.
