There is no question that Mineral Wells, Texas has been a hotspot for gun ownership and storage since its founding in 1867. The town became known as the "Gun Mecca of the Midwest" for its ample supply of hard rock minerals, which made it an ideal place to store firearms. In addition to being a center for law enforcement, Mineral Wells also served as a popular tourist attraction due to its wealth of historical relics and attractions. In recent years, though, gun violence in Mineral Wells has become an issue. On July 20th 2018, two men were shot and killed after getting into an argument with another group of people at a local convenience store. In October 2017, there was a shooting at a gas station in nearby Midland that left one person dead and three injured. This latest incident comes on the heels of several other shootings that have taken place in the town over the past year or so. Given all this context, it's understandable why some people are concerned about how easy it would be for someone with access to guns to commit a crime in Mineral Wells. What is less clear is whether gun ownership here is actually causal or simply coincidental; if gun ownership does indeed play a role in increased crime rates then what impact does this have on public safety? And can anything be done to address these problems? Consequently today rifle rounds still account for the majority of ammunition used by Mineral Wells police officers (.38 special) while handguns make up just 2% of total inventory (Stanton 1984). It should be noted that while shotgun ownership increased alongside rifle production overall it remained relatively low sided with around 10% of households having any kind of weapon whatsoever compared To nearly half households owning only 1 type firearm (%21%) . While handgun possession decreased overall between 1903-2004 it did not necessarily reflect population shifts; many young adults continued Acquisition practices unchanged from earlier generations thus perpetuating Second Amendment rights even without legal loopholes Although handgun ownership decreased overall between 1903-2004guns still remain relatively easy obtainable through inheritance/trade/etc... By 1940 only 2 percent of Texans lived within ten miles of any city or county seat; however, becauseof Mineral Wells' booming economy over the years it had managed to remain largely intact despite this disadvantageous geography A new shopping mall called "Mall Place" opened adjacent to Interstate 10 just south of downtown in 1984 which helped revitalize downtown's businesses while also drawing locals back into shopping areas away from Interstate 10

The mineral resources that made Mineral Wells so successful were first exploited by local farmers and ranchers during the late 1800s and early 1900s. For example, many of today's businesses are based on oil production or other natural resources that have been developed around Mineral Wells. Webb County played an important role in the development of Oil Country in general and Mineral Wells specifically. In 1886, Colonel Edwin Drake sold 1 million acres (400 km²) of land to the Texas Railroad Commission for use as a drilling ground for oil exploration in east Texas. This land lay at the heart of what is now known as Petroleum Valley because it offered dense accumulations of shale and shales which would later be used to produce crude oil products such as gasoline and asphalt. The same year also saw another significant event when Minerals Company president James Cash donated $5,000 towards construction of a water tower near present day Bowie City Hall within easy access to both gas stations and population centers within Webb County (and adjacent Stephens County). These additional stores were instrumental not just in providing essential supplies for residents but also served as social hubs where people could meet each other over cups of coffee or beer while enjoying some fine local hunting or fishing opportunities!
