Midlothian, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and is served by the Midlothian Independent School District. Midlothian is a typical American small town with a downtown core containing several businesses and services as well as modest homes that line Main Street between First and Second streets. The community's history can be traced back to 1873 when John Witherspoon founded what would become Midlothian Municipal Airport (later Midlothian-Richardson Airport). Witherspoon used land donated by Captain James Fenton and others in nearby Richardson to establish what would eventually become Midlothian County; he named it after his home county of Scotland. The airfield opened in June of that year and became one of the first commercial airports in Texas. In 1925, Witherspoon donated additional land for agricultural purposes which became known as "Witherspoon Valley". Today's airport complex includes an industrial park adjacent to its original boundaries, as well as two adjacent housing developments (the Arlington Heights development on Arlington Avenue northwest of Main Street and the McKinney Development east of Interstate 10). In 1951, David Dickey bought land from Witherspoon for $1 million which would become Midlothian High School; commerce students were housed there during their early years before being relocated to other schools within Humble ISD upon reaching grade school level starting in 1957. In 1967, while concurrently building South Central High School on property owned by Driscoll Brothers Pharmacy & Florist store heirs Johnnie & Linda Johnson - now JCPenney - annexed much of the southeast side of Main Street leading to scenic FM 925 southward past I-10 toward Highland Park; following annexation JCPenney built a large new campus across FM 925 from then existing high school buildings - now called South Central HS - providing classrooms, football Stadium/ gyms, office space and more than 30 residences for students (now known as Holy Angels Academy). Just over two decades ago in 1990s Revitalization Committee deliberations led to establishment of MIDLOTHIAN FIRST COUNCILMANSHIP (& neighborhood watch program) Midlthians High School currently houses all elementary through twelfth grade students Community service organizations meeting monthly are League Of Women Voters OF TX., Kiwanis Club OF TX., United Way OF TX., Foster Care Association Of TX., Habitat For Humanity Of TX., Presbyterian Church USA
