In Midlothian, Texas, the first firearms laws were passed in 1875. The original ordinances regulated handguns only and did not include any regulation of rifles and shotguns. In 1902, John Hargrave established unsuccessful enterprises at various locations within the township before settling permanently on land east of present day Main Street which he named Rosedale after his sister’s home near Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1907, James Bowie became the first white man to reside permanently in what is nowMidlothian when he moved from San Antonio and purchased more than three acres (10 ha) of land along Main Street between Winchester Road and White Settlement Road for $1,000 cash. Bowie financed his purchase with $5 worth of trade goods collected during his travels through Central Texas during the springtime cattle drives that were common at that time . He built his cabin on this property which remains standing today asBowie House Museum #3 inside the Armstrong County Courthouse Annex Building on Elm Drive adjacent to limestone quarry No 13 where he worked early morning jobs opening up new mines until late into the night shift like all other miners during that period . John Hargrave organized a Masonic Lodge in 1911 which met at Whatcom Schoolhouse where services were provided for students attending public schools across Turtle Creek west of town limits including Emporia High School operated by Scottish Rite Lodge No 2 operating out of their school building on West Buffalo Lane until 1916 when it moved to Milligan Chapel where services continued until 1922 when it merged with Scottish Rite Lodge No 1 located southwest of town limits forming Rosedale Masons Lodge No 2 which meets at current day Presbyterian Church #2 off US Highway 290 just north of I-35 exit 36A.). Over time more local lodges formed such as Masonic lodge no 7 (later renamed Highland Park), Baptist church (later renamed First Baptist Church), Dietz family farm chapel & dairy barnchurch & post office (& later name changed back to Highland Park Methodist EpiscopalChurch). On May 25th 1898 Rev Dr Wm Fenton organized North Side Agricultural Society Incorporated under Act 22 Geo L C 145 Laws Of Texas Wesleyan Methodist EpiscopalChurch). Today's North Side Methodist EpiscopalChurch was chartered November 3rd 1893 by Reverend Dr Wm Fenton with deed dated October 15th 1899 from Elisha Cook widowof Major General Sam Houstonヽ(Elisha Cook DDS /Dr William Ferguson MD / Rev James Bowman DDD /Rev George Prentice MD)).
