The population has grown rapidly throughout this time due largely to annexed properties that have seen development such as Baylor University's Round Rock campus – completed in 2013 – as well as new restaurants and bars coming onto Harrison Street near Interstate 45/I-20 south of downtown which has led to increased traffic congestion on nearby I-45/I-20 exits! Today there are over 4,000 residents living withinKilleen -MidLAND Combined Statistical Area including 1,500 students at Baylor University while also serving as an anchor neighborhood for many other businesses along Harrison Street adjacent to Interstate 45/I-20; this type of economic development continues today with more restaurants opening up all over town!

The first inhabitants of what is now Midland were people from central Mexico who crossed into Hudspeth County in search of new land. They arrived between 1836 and 1839. The first post office in Midland was established in 1843. By 1865 Midland had become a stop on the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1870 Midland became an incorporated municipality with a government headed by a mayor and six trustees. In 1888 Midland went through a major transformation when it became one of about 100 communities that formed Texarkana district under Act 6 of 1888 which authorized creation of public school districts throughout Texas as part of efforts to improve education opportunities for all citizens statewide. At that time Texarkana was one of only 10 townships within TXD property boundaries; other incorporations included Alpine (1894), Sherman (1901), Aubrey (1905), Duncanville (1910), Grapevine (1920), Dickinson (1925) and Prairie View A&M University Annex (2002). The 21st century has seen significant changes also – most notably Hurricane Katrina's landfall just outside town limits on August 29th 2005 – followed by extensive damage done both inside and outside town limits as well as overall loss of life due to rain, flooding, storm surge along with some loss/damage from tornado events over this period including Cinco de Mayo Weekend 2006 when severe wind gusts reached up to 100 mph!
