There has been a gun magazine in Midland, Texas for over 100 years. The first gun magazine was started by Mr. and Mrs. John Gentry in 1879. It was called the "Gentry Rifle and Pistol Magazine". In 1903, the Midland Rifle & Shotgun Club came into being and started publishing their own magazine called the "Midland Rifle Journal". The club also had their own armory that published magazines and handguns from 1903-1963. In 1966, the Midland Pistol Club started publishing their own magazine which is still published today. The first handgun magazines were started by Mr. Charles Hickey in 1911 and were called the "Hickey Gun Club Magazine". In 1916, he moved to Dallas and opened his own gun store there which became known as the "Hickey Gun Store Magazine". At this point, handgun magazines became popular in Dallas because of all of the shootings that took place there at that time. From 1916-1917, they produced two different types of magazines- one with 10 rounds per issue and one with 20 rounds per issue. In 1919, Mr. Charles Hickey sold his business to become a distributor for Winchester Arms Company which continued producing handgun magazines until 1963 when it merged with Colt Industries Incorporated to form Colt American Corporation (CALIBER). After CALIBER merged with Glock Holding AG in 2015, all handguns production stopped within CALIBER LLC due to regulations from Glock Holding AG regarding firearm safety/functionality changes within certain models of firearms (such as pistols) made by other companies under CALIBER's brand name (e.g., Smith & Wesson). However, some models still continue to be manufactured under license by other companies such as SIG Sauer USA Incorporated pursuant to an agreement between SIG SAUERSystems Lpktd., Inc./SIG Sauer America Corp./and Glock Holding AG

In 1872, construction began on what would later be known as The Loop – an expressway that ran through downtown Midland along today’s Main Street. This road helped spur economic development throughout central Texas while also helping increase trade between local businesses and those in neighboring states. During World War II, Midland played an important role in providing food for troops stationed in southern Mexico during Operation Overlord. Some notable buildings located within Downtown Midland include The Loop restaurant (now closed), First Baptist Church (now Christ United Methodist Church), Post Office Annex (now building used as apartments), Masonic Temple (now used as a library), Baker Air Force Base Officers' Club (now closed),and Municipal Court Building (now defunct).
