Baca named his new community Victoria after Queen Victoria's birthplace of Windsor Castle, England Baca's rancho extended into present day Denison County across Clear Fork Creek from Victoria while another pioneer family - Doniphan & Co - developed cattle feeder rights along Clear Fork Creek adjacent to future Midland Airport just north of today's downtown area In 1848 James Fenton purchased 4 acres at what would become Main Street corner opposite Anson Avenue from Moses Hogg for $25 ($750 per square mile) which later became home to Pemberton Drug Store Fenton renamed his property Elmwood after Elmira Springs near Albany, New York where he had been born in 1784 On October 14th 1870 Charles Goodnight erected a wooden frame building on Main Street corner opposite Anson Avenue known as Goodnight House now home to East Side Cafe Throughout much of :=1920s-1930s it served as "the depot" for express trains running through Old Mexico City bound for Dallas/Fort Worth Mexican Border towns
