Midland is a town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Midland" was given to the area by early settlers because it lay midway between Dallas and Fort Worth. The first post office in this area was called "New Braunfels." After the Union army's victory over Confederate forces at San Jacinto on March 6, 1848, General Sam Houston ordered all military posts in Texas be named for heroes or achievements during that battle. One such post office was established at New Braunfels and Central Avenue; this became known as "Midland". In 1875, Midland incorporated as a municipal corporation with a population of 10 residents. By 1890, its population had grown to 20 residents. That year, Midland became an independent city and adopted its present form with a total population of 507 citizens when it annexed the adjacent village of White Sands in 1912. In 1924, Midland annexed the neighboring town of Rocksprings which had been founded by Methodists in 1881 as an agricultural community nears railroads that would connect Dallas and Fort Worth; Rocksprings also became an incorporated municipality in 1924. In 1955 voters then passed a local option ordinance to allow annexation of other adjoining towns if they reached a vote approving it (which they did). On November 8 that year—the day after Thanksgiving—Midland annexes the neighboring town of Haskell which had been founded by Presbyterians about two miles east of MidLAND on Centre Street about twenty years earlier than Rocksprings and White Sands; Haskell also became an incorporated municipality on November 8th along with MidLAND from what were then separate townships within Midlanders County boundaries. On December 17th 1956 voters approved passage of another local option ordinance allowing annexation up to 2 miles beyond any existing municipal borders should those communities reach voter approval (they did not). This annexation created what are now Tomball and Clearwater counties within Midlanders County boundaries- thus giving rise to what is now known as Lone Star State Park located within rocky mesa country just north-west of Tomball off FM 1960 where Presumed creek flows into Gulfatchie Creek: midlandshtx@gmail.com

Midland is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas, on the border of Midland County and Odessa County. The population was 234,455 at the 2010 census. Midland has been home to many important events in its history, including the Battle of Midland and the Mexican-American War. The first permanent settler in what is now Midland was John C. Hogg, who arrived in 1836 with his family from Illinois. By 1840, there were over 100 people living in what is today Midland. In 1846, Jens Jensen founded the town of Jasper which lies just east of present-day Midland on State Highway 31B (now I-10). In 1849, General Zachary Taylor's forces invaded Mexico and captured Veracruz City; as a result, most Mexicans who were not immediately deported fled toTexas or took flight across American soil. Many Texans decided to move into what is now Midland because transportation was difficult to find outside of Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth. The population grew rapidly during this time as settlers came by wagon trains and longhorns to take up land grants which they then subdivided into small farmssteads or ranches that they farmed for years until railroad construction made it possible for them to sell those properties and settle down permanently. On November 21, 1851, local newspapers reported that United States District Judge Augustus Ewing had issued an order allowing citizens of Texas petition for admission into the Union on horseback through Ellis Ranch south of San Angelo on December 1st; since no one could ridehorseback at that time it was thought that only Mexican Americans would be able to vote On December 3rd about 25 citizens rode out from Dallas under cover of darkness towards Ellis Ranch; when they got there they found that all but two passengers had already left due to lack of food or water supplies inside the ranch buildings! After unsuccessfully looking for them within hours locals returned home without making any progress toward admitting Texanians To The Union On January 6th President James K Polk announced via proclamation that Texas would become a part OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA On January 10th Governor Anson Jones Signs Proclamation Admitting Texans IntoUnion As early as February 8th cattle began arriving at Buffalo Bayou near present day Midland from Wichita Falls TX
The town of Midland was founded in 1836 by John D. Rockefeller, father of the Standard Oil Company. The townsite was chosen because it lay on a bend in the Santa Fe River and offered easy access to transportation routes. Midland became an important commercial center after railroads came to the area in the 1840s. In 1865, Midland became the seat of Tarrant County when it was organized from parts of Dallas and San Antonio counties. The city of Midland grew rapidly during the post-World War II period, but declined in importance after federal housing projects were built in nearby Arlington and Fort Worth. Midland experienced a renaissance during the late 1990s and 2000s as businesses began moving back into town from neighboring cities such as Arlington and Fort Worth.
