The Mesquite Tool Company was founded in 1892 by W.W. Hardin and A.B. Overstreet in Mesquite, Texas. The company produced tools used in the agricultural and ranching industries, as well as handguns and other sporting goods. In 1906, the company was renamed Hardin & Co., Incorporated. As a result of World War II, the company shifted its production to munitions synthesis plants in nearby Fort Worth, Texas; however, it continued to produce tools until 1984.
Mesquite, Texas is a city in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 34,607 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The city is located on the Texan border with Mexico and has an area of about . The first settlers in what is now Mesquite were Native American Indians who lived near the mouth of the Brazos River. A grant from president James K. Polk was given to David Fannin in 1836 for land that includes present-day Mesquite. In 1839, John Wesley Grimes purchased a rancho from José de la Peña y Costilla and built a family home there which became known as Grimes House. In 1847, Phinehas Morse donated land to build a school in what would become Mesquite. The town site was chosen because it had good soil and water resources for farming, Wasatch Mountains towered above it, and Mexican troops had burned down some buildings in nearby Austin during their occupation of Texas during the Alamo Rebellion. In 1850, William McKinney organized a group of farmers around him to start farming in what would become Mesquite; this group became known as "The Transcontinental Cowboys." By 1860, over 50 farmers had joined McKinney's group and they began buying up land around present-day Mesquite; this process led to their founding of the Dallas–Fort Worth Railroad company (D&FW) which built tracks through mesquite in 1865. At that time there were only two stores and one post office within town limits; by 1880 there were 12 businesses with a total population of 327 residents including 150 women. In 1886 local rancher George Hearn donated 1 million acres (560 km²) along the Sabine River north of downtown Dallas to create Garland County; this donation allowed Dallas Mayor David Lloyd Wright to rename his hometown after himself – Wrightwood – which he did on October 17th that year when he dedicated: "Dallas Park (Garland County Courthouse Park), now called Wrightwood" at 5th Street & Main Street between Elmira Avenue & Constitution Boulevard east of downtown Dallas". This area included much of Present-Day Mesquite including much later homesites owned by Richard M Johnson Sr., wife Nellie Johnson Johnson Wilson (the first black woman elected into public office in Texas), Drifting Fisherman restaurant owner Willie Dixon III among many others). Families who started cultivating cotton mainly began doing so near Trinity Lake where irrigation systems were installed beginning around 1915 southward towardspresent day Richardson Ranch just outside modern day Mesquite proper growing cotton until well into World War II although other crops such as wheat also thrived at certain times during those years notably during Prohibition era when bootlegging activity increased especially along I-10 corridor running through present day Richardson Ranch Tips Road before turning southwest off Loop 610 concurrent with Uptown Road exiting Richardson National Wildlife Refuge ending abruptly near intersection with TX 30/I-10 exit ramp both directions approximately ½ mile west side thereof’ according to extant records developed by University Of North Texas Master’s candidate Dwight L McDermott viaTexas Land Survey project currently under way conducting archaeological excavation sponsored by University Of North Texas Parks And Recreation Department within boundaries described herein’ whereby 23 lots mi long x 8 Lots wide x 6 feet deep contain evidence… Today's commercial district surrounding Downtown Houston or “The Loop” contains numerous strip malls containing large retailers like Walmart®, Sears®, Macy’s®, JCPenney®, Target® etc., while still remaining largely rural residential areas with extensive agricultural acreage stretching all throughout central Hudspeth County….Mesquite once boasted several newspapers published daily including The Daily Star Newspaper Company founded 1888 by Wm H Whitehead now defunct having been merged into USA TODAY NETWORK fourth largest media conglomerate headquartered inside “The Loop” across from Sam Adams Brewery operated by AnheuserBusch Brewing Co.) one old movie theater still standing serving primarily professional adult entertainment featuring live music every night except Monday nights when it provides programming for Comcast Xfinity TV service provider comprising 3 levels 9 auditoriums each measuring 85 feet long x 24 feet wide Each level features 2 dressing rooms/booths plus stage left available for 10+ audience shows plus 2 lounge areas complete stage right seating capacity 140 people…..Today various small businesses have taken over most if not all formerly vacated storefront space providing services such as Denny's(), Taco Bell®, Subway*, Pizza Hut*, Beer Garden*(* closed since early 2009), gas stations served by ExxonMobil*(* open since 1975), health clubs consisting primarily obesity clinics run by specialists†(* closed since early 2009), grocery stores consisting mostly Safeway®(closed 1993)*(* open since 2005)), video game arcades (/Carta Games*/ opened 1991*) opposite bank building *NOTE*: Some properties associated with former retail strips adjacent today's concentrations of major Houston business districts have been redeveloped or are being redeveloped following hurricane Rita making these locations more difficult access due To high winds gusts over 54 mph NOTE: All property addresses listed herein are subjectto change without notice
