Mesquite, Texas is a small town located in the southern part of the state of Texas. The population was 5,834 at the 2010 census. Mesquite is one of four towns in Hudspeth County and is included within the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Mesquite first appeared on maps in 1846 when James Hogg, Surveyor General for Mexican Land, surveyed what is now Hudspeth County. He named it after his friend and neighbor, Mr. Mesquite in Dallas County near present day Richardson. In 1849, J.D McCloskey established a post office here with the name Mesquite but changed it to Round Rock two years later because he did not want to compete with Dallas City's Round Rock Post Office which had been operating since 1794. The first store in Mesquite opened its doors on December 12, 1870 by Averill Higginbottom and his son John Higginbottom II. Mesquite experienced some growth during World War I when many soldiers from nearby Fort Worth served in Europe as scouts or intelligence officers for American forces then returned home before hostilities ended on August 16, 1918. Many businesses were born out of this time including munitions manufacturing plants like Pratt & Whitney which became United Aircraft Corporation and Arkevila Rubber Company which built Anheuser Busch beer cans before merging into Anheuser-Busch InBev around 1984). As of 2010, it had an estimated population of 31,421 people based on The Texas A&M University Aggie Statistical Review for Aggieland Region – week ending September 3, 2011 The history of mesquitos begin with humans who first arrived here about 12 million years ago according to research done by Drs Phil Boulding & John Slingerland at Baylor University’s graduate school of geology . At that time there were no trees or other plants hereabouts so that water would not have been available for these creatures such as us today if we lived close by like many other animals do today especially across large parts of North America where water availability is much greater than it once was because man has messed things up royally! However some areas near present day mesquite did have water back then which may have supported some small creatures while others didn’t due to alluvium deposition over time either way those creatures would have eventually starved or died off or both! Anyway someone must have eaten them or they would have rotted away over time!
