After World War I ended, many Mesquite businesses closed their doors or changed their focus from munitions production to non-firearm products such as automobiles or cigarettes (cigarettes being an important product during this time). However, several small businesses continued to produce firearm t-shirts until the late 1970s when all commercial printing stopped for good within Mesquite due to violence associated with firearms ownership (this trend continued through much of what was called “the Gun Industry”). Today’s proliferation of online purchasing options has resulted in an increased demand for innovative clothing designs related to firearms ownership and safety – something that mesquitonese civilians have been passionate about since before there even existed such a thing as internet shopping! Mesquite, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and is the county seat of Nueces County. The population was 810 at the 2010 census. Mesquite is located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city began as an Indian village called Mestizo on December 8, 1836, by Father José de la Peña and Father Francisco Gomez y Costilla under the leadership of José Maria Morelos. In 1838, Spanish colonists named it Paso del Norte after Rancho Pasqual de Santiago that had been established by Manuel Antonio Carranza east of San Antonio in 1827. In 1886, Mesquite became one of five townships within Nueces County when it was created from parts of Plano and Irvington municipalities; these were all part of adobe-built Mission San Fernando Rey de las Americas (which later became known as El Paso) until annexation by Dallas in 1907. The town's first post office opened on October 1, 1888; it closed on July 15, 1912 due to its high volume of mail traffic with nearby Plano. Mesquite experienced rapid growth following World War II with the influx of servicemen and their families who built homes near military bases such as Fort Worth Army Airfield and Arlington Municipal Airport. This growth accelerated after Interstate 10 was constructed through Mesquite in 1960; however, suburban development continued into the 21st century withthe opening of shopping malls such as SMU Plaza mall and NorthPark Shopping Center adjacent to Loop 610 East/I-30 exit 6B (now I-610).
