Citronelle Paper & Plastic Products Division was acquired by Procter & Gamble Plastics Division in 2016. Today, mesquite is a thriving city that has experienced significant growth over the past few decades thanks to its many industries and businesses: agriculture (including cattle farming), manufacturing (Cement Works II through Citronelle Paper & Plastic Products Division; Procter & Gamble Plastics Division), healthcare (StemCell Research Institute; Baylor College Houston Hospital), retail commerce (Tesoro Oil Refinery; Sam’s Club), government services (Willacy County Sheriff’s Department; US Customs And Border Protection), sportswear retailer Bass Pro Shops USA (the former Outlet Mart)), education (McMaster University - Canada Campus); and tourism (+10% growth from 2015 to 2016).
