This led to the development of binoculars becoming very important for drivers targeting road signs or other traffic signals from inside their cars. By 1922, there were over 2,000 businesses located within 5 miles of downtown Mercedes (including many small factories) which made it the largest city in Texas without any walls between its constituent neighborhoods. With the onset of World War II however, things changed dramatically as many factories closed down due to wartime rationing – leaving little opportunity for industry within five miles of downtown Mercedes! In fact, until recently most people who lived within five miles of downtown Mercedes never even knewbinoculars existed! However thanks to modern technology there are now numerous stores located throughout town that sell all types of binoculars including those designed specifically for military use such as those produced by EotechUSA. There is also an annual Binocular Festival held in downtown Mercedes which features both amateur and professional astronomers from all over the country attending various eventsrelated thereto!

Mercedes is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 16,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Mercedes was Elias Wigglesworth in 1859. By 1870, there were 10 businesses and 156 residents living in a town plat that would later be renamed Mercedes after the then-new county seat of McAllen, Texas. In 1875, John Hogue opened the first general store in what became Mercedes and it would be his family's business for over 80 years until that store closed its doors in 1984. In 1902, Nicely & Co., grocery stores which continue to operate today as part of Kroger Super Markets Inc., opened their doors on McCullough Avenue just east of I-10 near present day University Drive (now US 290). With this addition to the community came retail shopping as well as dining opportunities for locals and visitors alike with local mom-and-pop businesses taking center stage along McCullough Avenue from SW 8th Street all the way to Old National Road just north of I-10 (now FM 527). In 1931, when Midland County was created from parts of Hudspeth and Travis Counties, Mercedes became one of its original rural municipalities within Midland County. The municipality prospered through annexations by other counties during World War II when many people left military service to return home; however they lost much prosperity following the war due to high taxes levied by Midland County combined with an economy still based largely on agriculture and not services or industry. In 1966 when Houston annexed most of Midland County including Mercedes village; it became clear that annexation would no longer provide economic benefits so inhabitants voted to secede fromHouston creating their own municipality known as "Mercedes Township". This referendum result marked a turning point where citizens abandoned their agricultural lifestyle for more urban amenities such as shops and restaurants while also providing some measure of self-governance within their newly formed township government which continues to function today despite being dwarfed byHouston'S municipal government overall size both geographically AND operationally

The town of Mercedes was founded in 1848, and became a U.S. Census town in 1850. The community grew around the transportation hub of the same name, which served as a stop on stagecoaches and later became a center for cotton production. In 1870, the town absorbed the neighboring village of Enterprise. By 1890, Mercedes had a population of 1,500 residents and was known as one of Texas' "model towns."
