McALLEN, Texas (KPRC) - A shooting that left a man dead and another critically injured has residents of the small town on edge. The shooting happened early Wednesday morning in the city of McALLEN. Officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 2 a.m. Upon arrival, they found 47-year-old Edwin Micheal Goodall with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Goodall's 52-year-old wife, Katheryn Goodall, was also shot and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. Her husband was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital." According to witnesses, Edwin Goodall started Argumentative with another man before getting into an altercation with his wife which turned violent. The other man then fled the scene in his car before returning and firing shots at Edwin Goodall's wife who returned fire warning him not to leave her alone McALLEN Mayor Art Acevedo said he doesn't believe this is related to any hate crime or violence against minorities recently going on in the city." Edwin Micheal Goodall may have been killed because he spoke out against bigotry or racism within his community according to some residents McALLEN Mayor Art Acevedo called it an "argumentative" family dispute

By 1870, the population had grown to over 1,000 people and it began to grow rapidly due to cotton production in nearby Abilene. In 1910, the railroad reached McAllen and this led to rapid growth in the community as people started moving into the town for work on the railroad. In 1913, a school was built and named after Professor Lyman Abbott and it served until 1970 when it was replaced by McALLEN HIGH SCHOOL which still serves today. The economy of McAllen has been based largely upon agriculture for most of its history. Today, however,Mcallen is known for its manufacturing sector which includes a variety of businesses such as lumberyards and auto parts stores. Many local residents continue to participate in farming or ranching activities although some have moved away from these pursuits entirely in recent years because of increased competition from other towns within commuting distance from McAllen.
The town of Mcallen, Texas was founded in 1836 by Captain John W. McAllen and his wife, Neely Ann. At the time of its founding, it was part of the Mexican territory of Alamo de Bexar. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s due to its strategic location on the Red River and its access to trade with Mexico City. In 1858, Mcallen became a county seat of Don Pedro Cámpora County. By 1860, Mcallen had a population of 1,500 residents and was home to a Methodist church, high school, library/bookstore, grammar school and post office. The city annexed portions of neighboring towns in 1870-71 as part of an effort to increase its population size. However, by 1880 Mcallen's population had fallen to 350 residents and it ceased to be a county seat. In 1887 the county seat moved from Don Pedro Cámpora to Lubbock when Lubbock became one of Texas' four congressional districts.
