Mcallen, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,923 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of what is now Mcallen were Spanish colonists who arrived in 1836. In 1845, settlers named it "Maldonado" after General Antonio López de Mendoza and his army which invaded Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The name changed to McAllen in 1881 when John J. McAllen founded the cattle ranch that became known as "the Rancho Grande". A post office called Maldonado was established in 1847, and remained in operation until 1898. In 1911, oil was discovered at Big Bend National Park and local landowners began extracting oil from wells there. The townspeople quickly built a refinery to processing this new fuel source and named it "McAllen Oil Refinery". The refineries increased production until they reached their peak in the early 1920s; however, World War II intervened and production stopped because of wartime rationing. In 1951, construction began on the current ExxonMobil refinery which joined forces with ChevronTexaco to form Texaco-Exxon Corporation in 1984. As world economies changed following the 1980s recession and deregulation of industry, McAllen experienced rapid growth due to its location within Interstate 35W easy access to major markets across Texas and Mexico City.. However beginning around 2000 these gains slowed as global economic conditions worsened culminating with a recession that hit many communities near Houston particularly hard . By 2006 McAllen had lost most of its jobs as multinational corporations pulled out of Texaco-ExxonCorp operations worldwide including some 350 employees at our company headquarters located on I-35W just outside downtown Mcallen

In order to fire these destructive devices safely, it was necessary to create measures to prevent them from detonating prematurely. This innovation soon led to the development of rifle rounds, which featured smaller holes instead of a big bombarding stone/wood projectile. The McAllen community is located in what was once a small town in the far southwest corner of Texas. The area now includes the towns ofMcAllen and Humble, as well as parts of Temple and Commerce counties. At its peak, the population of McAllen was over 10,000 people. Today, there are only a handful of residents remaining in this vibrant community which has experienced many changes over the years. The first inhabitants of what is now McAllen were Native Americans who built their homes on land that is now part of the University Park campus. When white settlers arrived in what is today McAllen County in 1849, they found the natives living peacefully among themselves and began to hunt and cultivate crops. By 1860, however, some local merchants had discovered oil wells near present-day Humble and decided to invest in this new resource. The business soon became successful and attracted other entrepreneurs who started businesses such as a millinery store, a bakery, a grocer’s shop, a blacksmith shop and more. In 1870 Union Pacific Railroad builders arrived with plans to build an interurban line from Galveston toDallas. They selected the site for their station at what is now Interstate 35E just south of present-day McAllen. A few months later work began on this important project which would connect Dallas with Houston by way of San Antonio de Padua Station! The town quickly grew around this new development with people commuting to jobs in Dallas orHouston each day. One key event that took place during these early days within McALLEN was when Reverend James Fenton organized Methodist Episcopal Church services for all citizens inside government buildings including county courthouse where services were also conducted for court cases throughout those years! This event marked an important change for this tiny community as it provided access to religious services without having to leave their homes! During World War II (1939-1945), much activity took place within McALLEN due to military enlistments starting up immediately after Pearl Harbor! Businesses like grocery stores did brisk business selling provisions needed by Detachment C – American Forces stationed throughout Baja California Sur; troops being shipped into Mexico City; airfields being built in Misamis Oriental; etc.; Many families put their wartime efforts towards helping others through various means such as banking donations or raising money through bake sales or car shows etc… Most importantly though was giving backpacks full of foodstuffs called “canned goods” which were collected from memberships club sponsored events across the state! These canned goods items helped feed soldiers on deployment while also providing essential supplies like tea towels and soap bars not available from home Later during WW2 another key event happened when our school board approved purchasing equipment for building two high schools: one for girls (the current Lady Bird Johnson HS)and one for boys (Sammy Davis HS). Since then numerous changes have been made both inside/outside school walls making education available on every level possible here!!!! In 1948 we opened our doors again after 5 long years!!!
