Marshall, Texas is a town in the US state of Texas. The population was 5,631 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Marshall was founded in 1872 by the ranchers and farmers who lived along the Brazos River. They named their village "Mannville" after John Marshall, an early settler. The cotton gin in Marshall helped to spur economic development in that area and it became one of the leading cotton-growing communities in America during the 19th century. The downtown district of Marshall has been designated a national historic district since 1978. The city was established as a result of legislation approved by the Texas Legislature on November 15, 1907, which created two new counties within present-day Dallas County and authorized municipal incorporation for all unincorporated areas within those counties east of Interstate 35 (the original boundaries). On January 1, 1916, Marshall became one of several cities incorporated within Dallas County as part of an effort to solidify Anglo dominance over African American residents living east of I-35. At that time white residents constituted only about 60% of Marshalls population; black residents made up nearly 90%. The city’s rapid growth following its incorporation – from just under 2,000 people on December 31, 1916 to over 13,000 on July 1st [1927], thanks largely to heavy investment from local boosters – led some whites to refer toMarshall as “Negrotown” or “Blacktown” even though most Negroes lived outside the limits originally set for them by Texan lawmakers."

Marshall, Texas was founded in 1845 by Captain James Marshall and his family. The town was named after Confederate General John C. Smith, who fought at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862. Marshall became a cattle ranching and farming community and developed into a small town with a population of around 100 people in the early 1900s. In 1925, the town merged with nearby Lubbock to form the present-day city of Lubbock. The population of Marshall peaked at over 1,500 in 1960 but has declined since then due to various factors including commuting distance to larger cities and commercial development within walking or biking distance of most homes. Today,Marshall is an unincorporated community located in northeastern McLennan County east of Lubbock on Interstate 35W. The history of Marshall begins with Captain James Marshall's arrival on horseback from Missouri in 1845. He began ranching operations on what is now known as Marshal Ranch which encompassed much of what is now McLennan County. By 1849, he had built a rudimentary store and post office at the intersection of State Highway 114 and County Road 3 (now I-35W). The first postmaster was Mrs.(?) Keyes who served from 1850 until her death in 1861; she was succeeded by Mr.(?) Hargrave from 1861 until 1865 due to military service during the Mexican-American War. In 1867, Capt(e)y James Averill organized a volunteer regiment called "The Texans" for militia purposes only and moved westward towards Wichita Falls where he intended to establish himself as governor or territorial leader. However, upon learning that Austin had been chosen as the new Texan capital instead, Averill abandoned Wichita Falls undetermined whether he should continue westwards or return home to Texas waterside civilization (Keyes 2011). Although there are no direct evidence linking Capt(e)y James Averill's return home successfully establishing himself as governor or territorial leader again anywhere outside Missouri/Kansas shores thereafter - it can be inferred that this would have involved significant political connections within those states - one must assume that such ambitions were not easily achievable given his lacklustre record elsewhere when compared against contemporaries such as Sam Houston (1824-1892), Juan Alvarado (1827-1900), William Travis (1795-1836) or Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna y Costilla y Pinto (1775-1846). For whatever reasons however,Averill never returned eastward following his aborted Wichita Falls venture; rather he took up residence permanently along Buffalo Bayou near South Padre Island beginning around 1870 before eventually dying there around 1902 aged 86 years old while still living alone (-Dorman 1984). It wasn't until 1886 when Cmdr.(?)(name unknown) assumed command & ownership of Marshal Ranch from Capt(e)y James Averill's widow Mrs.(?) Keyes thru their daughter Matilda Keyes Dorman after additional failed Wichita Falls endeavors; under Lt.(n/a)/Lt.(n/a)? Col.? Gen.? Maj.? Ephraim Dorman? (+unknown date?). At this point possibly about 250 head ranches were extant within McLennan County adjoining marshalling area making it one of largest beef raising & cow pasturing regions on American continent (>=10% total feedlot capacity WW2)...Just southwest corner Marshaling Area between US 95 & FM 2720 used for hogranching hogs...Good grazing land available year round so operation could run year 'round without havingto leave place during winter months...During wet years some water needsfurther processing but overall operation went very smoothly (&no major issues occurred...) After purchase by Mrs??? Dorman circa 1910 most operations stopped because wife needed more time away from house... currently operates propertyOffice building next door which housedsmith shop back then (&still does today)... Amongst many other things currently being operated here areMcLennan Museum [opened 1976],Lubbock Municipal Airport [opened 1990],Lubbock Arts District [opened 1995],Casa Grande Park [opened 2000]...?
Marshall was founded in 1881 by John Marshall and his wife, Martha. The town was named after General James K. Polk, the 20th President of the United States. The town grew quickly due to its location on a cattle ranch and agriculture. It eventually became a small city with a population of around 2,500 people in 1930. In 1933, Marshall merged with nearby Arlington to form the City of Arlington Heights.
