With an area less than one sixth that size it constitutes only 1% of all congressional districts in Texas but makes up 10% overall of all congressional districts in America because it includes so much rural territory not included within any other state or district[2]. As a result, although small towns throughout America may have similar economies - notably those located near airports - there can be considerable regional variation within individual locations even among relatively large metro areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth or Chicago IL[4]. This wide variation is probably due largely to differences in natural resources such as oil and gas reserves,[5] access to markets for goods produced elsewhere,[6] etc., but alsoto historical factors such as variations in government policy towards farming communities during different eras[7]. Marshalls agricultural sector produces primarily cottonseed oil products,[8], cornmeal concentrate,[9] cheese,[10][11][12][13], eggs[14],[15], cattle feed,[16],[17],[18] flour [19],[20], hog slaughtering facilities,[21],[22]: sawmills [23][24],[25]: salt mines [26]: chicken houses [27]; lumber yards; peach orchards; grapefruit orchards; citrus fruit production; cattle drives through town each year on November 25th when demand exceeds available supplies

Many new residents came during the Civil War because many goods needed to be transported between Mexico and America were being produced in Sherman County by soldiers and civilians working together. After the war, many more people moved into Marshall because there were good jobs availableproducing cotton, cattle, lumber and other agricultural products. In 1920 Marshall was incorporated as a city with a population of over 60 inhabitants; however, it would only grow to its current size after annexation by Sherman in 1969 when it became part of the larger city of Dallas metropolitan area. Today, Marshall is home to a diverse population that includes people from all over America including Germans, Japanese Americans (both recent arrivals on Long Islanders who had been forced out during World War II), African Americans (many of whom settled here after fleeing violence or persecution elsewhere) as well as Hispanics (foreigners who have made an effort to assimilate into American culture).
