Marshall is a town in Republican County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for General James K. Marshall who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became a U.S. Senator from Texas. The first post office was established in 1885 and was known as Marshall Post Office No. 2 because it served only residents of Marshalltown, which adjoined the town of Marshall on the south side of the Brazos River. In 1907, when Amarillo became an independent city, its citizens voted to annex part ofMarshall Township to make it their own municipality (the annexation process had been going on since 1906). This action made Marshal one of the earliest towns in Texas to have its own government and also opened up many new economic opportunities for locals because Amarillo now had access to all sorts of goods and services that were not available within MarshallTown itself

Marshall is the seat of Lubbock County. The first white person to live in what is now Marshall was Wm. Fenton in 1836. In 1881, General James Marshall founded the town of Marshall on the edge of what is now Metroplex City in Lubbock County as an agricultural center and trading post to serve farmers and settlers along the Llano River valley. The name “Marshall” originated with General James Marshall who established the original town site on October 28, 1881 after victorious battles against Mexican forces at Palo Alto Hill and San Jacinto Valley west of Austin. The townsite was located near present-day I-35W and US 287 south of downtown Lubbock However due to difficulties getting wheat from the area there were no permanent buildings erected until 1907 when JH White becameMarshalls first mayor & general manager with responsibility for all municipal functions including building public buildings / housing & irrigation systems etc while also furnishing lumber & other materials required for construction necessitating a storehouse/ warehouse complex being erected adjacent to current day First National Bank building across I-35W from downtown
Marshall was founded in 1845 by Capt. John Marshall and his wife, Martha. The town’s first post office was established in 1847. It grew rapidly due to the railroad industry, and by 1861 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1865, Marshall became a county seat and the town prospered as a center for cotton farming and ranching. The oil boom of the 1930s destroyed much of Marshall’s economic infrastructure, but the community recovered in the ensuing years. In recent decades, Marshall has become an attractive tourist destination with itshistoric buildings and natural resources.
