Marshall, Texas is a small town located in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the El Paso–Chihuahua Metropolitan Statistical Area. Located at the foot of Mount Wilson and bordered by Juarez to the north and east, Marshall was founded in 1881 by Major General James S. Marshall as a trading post on the Canadian River. The post served as a stop for travelers on their way to Chihuahua City or more distant points south. In 1911, Marshall was renamed for James S. Marshall Jr., then United States Secretary of War under President William McKinley. After two years as its new name, it reverted back to its original name in 1921 when all other U.S.-Mexico posts were re-named after members of Congress from each state who had served in Washington D.C.: Marshal for Texas; Armstrong for New Mexico; Brady for Arizona; Hale for California; Jenrettefor Delaware; Kearnyfor Montana; Sloan for Oregon; and Whiteheadfor Rhode Island (later renamed Providence). In January 1861, General Robert Eanes ordered Captain Wm Hogg to take command of all volunteer cavalry brigades west of Abilene and upriver towards San Antonio de Bexar with orders to pursue what he believed were Mexican forces retreating from items they’d captured at Monterrey earlier that month while also destroying any Mexican communications systems nearby including an artillery battery which he believed might have been supporting Mexican troops besieging Fort Hood on Ulysses S Grant’s army’s flank near Wichita Falls northeast of Dallas. Less than two weeks later Eanes died suddenly from cardiovascular disease during battle at Palo Alto Creek just outside present day San Antonio where his brigade had joined Union forces under Commanding General Winfield Scott following his victory over Confederate General Sam Houston near Eagle Pass northeast of Austin on September 17th 1861 less than three days after taking command general moved against Mexicans only to find them entrenched inside fortified positions well protected by walls with artillery batteries positioned across several hills overlooking main road leading out into Mexico proper

Marshall, Texas is a small town located in the southern portion of Johnson County, Texas. The population was 2,485 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls, TX-OK Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Marshall community was laid out in 1881 by J.C. Marshall and his wife Lillie Hargrave. They named it for General James Fenton Marshall who had been killed during the Mexican–American War. The first post office was established at Marshall in 1885, and mail moved to the current location from Wichita Falls in 1902. The town's first school was built on land donated by Mrs. Hargrave in 1887 and operated until 1906 when a new school building was erected on the east side of Main Street. In 1907, Marshal became one of four towns to be annexed into Wichita Falls which at that time included all of Johnson County except for Landfill Hill which remained within Tyler County (later Cooke County). In 1915, another annexation took place when Farmington Village merged with Marshalls Creek Township resulting in an increase in population to 4,838 residents though this number only reached 3,907 by 1920 due to World War I veteran flight away from home caused by inflation rates throughout much of America In 1922 there were 5 churches serving 725 students with $1 per student providing education including pre-kindergarten through 12th grade; 3 stores/banking institution; 1 grocery store; 1 movie theater; 1 bowling alley; and no housing units other than single family homes until annexation into Wichita Falls again did not result in an increase until 1960 when construction began on what would become known as "Homes on Main" becoming today's "Marshalls Creek development". The old cotton gin still stands today next door to where IGA now resides across from Central Methodist Church off US 183 just past Highway 287 (Marshall Rd)
