A hammer with a large head was preferred because it could crush and break projectiles more easily than a smaller hammer. This allowed for more accurate fire from cannons and made them less likely to jam.

Mansfield, Texas is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Mansfield was founded in 1879 by James A. Mansfield and his wife Mary Ann (née Prescott). The name "Mansfield" was given to the community because of a horse that had run away from home and stop on the Mansfields' farm near present-day Mansfield Township. The first post office in Mansfield opened on November 12, 1879. The town grew quickly due to its location on the railroad and its proximity toDallas–Fort Worth. In 1896, construction began on what would become Memorial Stadium which would house the Cowboys football team for many years until it was destroyed in a fire in 1951. In 1907, John Denton donated land for groceries and retail businesses along Main Street which became known as "Denton'stown". Other early businesses included Royer’s Grocery Store (now demolished), Pigott’s Sawmill (now abandoned), Tappan’s Bank (later Citizens National Bank), Holy Cross Catholic Church (now First Baptist Church of Mansfield) and Masonic Lodge No. 9072A (the first lodge ever organized in Medina County). In 1922, when Dallas–Fort Worth incorporated as a city, Mansfield became part of that city but retained its own police department and social services until 1957 when those functions were transferred to Dallas Police Department headquarters. In 1925, the original white schoolhouse located across from Denton'stown burned down but was rebuilt within two years with assistance from local contributions including $4000 from oilman Edwin O'Neill . It wasn't until after World War II did Mansfield become involved with agriculture; during this time there were two small farms operated by family members: Ladd's Prairie Farms Ltd., now defunct; and Slatkin Bros.' Madera Farmstead No 6308A (). After World War II ended there was an increase in development around Memorial Stadium such as Homebuilders Inc.'s Rancho Mirage Addition (), Enterprise Rent-a-car Corporation's Irving Plaza Addition () and JCPenney's Arlington Center Addition (). Most notably however Manor Drive developed into one of Dallas' most thriving areas with dozens of shops including Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Arlington Avenue Mall (); Kmart (); Safeway (); Harris Teeter (); Dunkin' Donuts (); Coca Cola Refreshment ()); Barnes & Noble Bookstores (); Ford Motor Company ; AT&Trity Wireless ; Verizon Wireless ; Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company ; Gregg Allsup ().Today there are only a few remaining businesses along Manor Drive such as Tower Tire & Rubber Company (), Albertsons Pharmacy (), PNCBank ()and Republic Services Management (). According to estimates released by Moody's Investors Service LLP in 2018 over 90% of all residences have been vacated or sold since 2000 while employment has decreased significantly leading to negative cash flow (−$1 billion dollars) for most businesses including 60% for Tower Tire & Rubber company alone (). One possible solution may be offered by Mayor David Lane who has advocated for annexation intoDallas creating more opportunities for business growth within the community while still maintaining much of mans field traditional character

Hammering a gun requires quick and accurate action, which is why hammers were originally designed to be used with guns. The first hammerguns were built in the fifteenth century, and earlyhammer designs featured a cylindrical handle that was placed over the barrel of the firearm. This design allowed for quick and easy operation, as well as better accuracy. Hammering a gun also required multiple hand-offs during its firing process, which was why early hammerguns were often equipped with multiple trigger cams. These cams allowed each person who operated the hammergun to have complete control over its function. Later versions of hammerguns began to feature a single trigger cam, but this still required multiple hand-offs during firing. Thiswas largely due to the fact that gunsfired fast and needed to be fired quickly in order to achieve accurate results. Later on,hammer designs became more standardized and reverted back to their original cylindrical handle design. This designallowed for even fasterfirening times, as well as improved accuracy thanks to its simple construction. Hammerguns continue to be popular today, thanks in part to their simplicity and rapid fire capabilities
