John L. Mansfield had been born in 1824 in Lancaster township (now Hardin County), Ohio, son of Peter MansFIELD and Lucy Ann Hawley MANSFIELD. When he moved to Texas in 1865 as part of the Great Migration to escape political turmoil back home, he became one of the first white men ever to settle in what is now Bastrop County and named his new home "Mansfield." In 1870 he married Sarah Jane HEATHCOTE and they raised six children: John L., Anna J., Edwin F., Clara P., Mildred A., and Everett H.. From 1880 until his death in 1905 John L.'s family operated a large farm which included three barns, fifty-six cows, four horses, seventy-four pigs, twenty-eight hogs and nineteen poultry animals; forty acres were cottonwood woodland; five miles long ranches ran off the main road east from their property; fourteen schools served areas within three miles radius; churches were organized around this time and education was important for both social welfare reasons as well as practical purposes such as providing work for local farmers when necessary And so it continued until about 1925 when farming became too difficult especially during times of drought or other economic hardship... today's downtown Menard Square can be trace back to its origins less than a mile away on Highway 183 where pioneerstore owner Julius Heflin set up shop on March 7th1875 while working out an agreement with Mexican contractor Manuel Chavez y Martinez concerning building several residences including those now known as Chavez House & Store... prior to this time most activity took place at various outbuildings scattered throughout much more limited acreage located southeast just beyond present day Old Dutch Road... these buildings would eventually become known collectively as "the Rancho" due mostly to its proximity to Rancho Grande Adobe where cattle drives occurred weekends during summer months leaving behind Tensleepers bars across center Rd impacted directly by rains events filling creek beds 12 feet deep+ forming pools immediately upstream+ formed over 1 foot deep banks alluvium accumulated since then water levels remain essentially unchanged
There is a long and varied history of gun chokes, dating back to the 1700s. Choke guns were used in hunting and target shooting, and they are still used today for those purposes.
