Mansfield is a small town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,814 at the 2010 census. Mansfield is located on the banks of the Trinity River and is west of downtown Dallas. It straddles the border of North Dallas and Richardson to the south. The first people in Mansfield arrived in 1851 when Jesse Mansfield purchased land from the Lipan Apache Indian tribe. In 1887, two brothers named John and Edward Forgan founded a cotton gin in what is now Mansfield. The Forgan Brothers gin operated until 1916 when it was replaced by an American Cannery Company plant. Mansfield's post office opened on November 1, 1892, and remained open until it was discontinued on December 15, 1966. On October 14, 1907, a train depot was built at Mansfield for the UP Line which served as its local terminus until 1971 when that line was abandoned due to low passenger traffic. This Depot has been reconstructed as an event center called "The Depot." The original building still stands today and can be toured during regular business hours or viewed as a tourist attraction during special events such as art shows or weddings with dinner being served inside! In 1952/53 (a time when Dallas county had no school district), Johnny Scales set up shop here playing guitar while his brother Don ran some type of grocery store across town (now defunct). Some years later they added a music store which became popular among local bands who would come play there sometimes lasting all night! Eventually both stores closed down but left their mark on this community with many memories that still linger today! Today much like then-Johnny Scales & Donny's Gourmet Grocery Store (& adjacent hardware store) are gone but their spirit lives on through their remnants left behind including artifacts from that era such as door knobs & bumpers from those stores!
