At that time, most businesses in Lumberton were small mom-and-pop stores or hardware stores located on main streets or near railroad tracks because there was no electricity available until 1953 when it was installed at the local power plant

The town of Lumberton was founded by settlers in 1875 and became a city on November 1, 1907. It took its name from lumber industry and logging operations that took place there until the early 20th century. The first European to visit what is now Lumberton was José de Urrea on July 7, 1793 when he explored the area for the Spanish captain Antonio de la Fuente y Ortega. La Salle expedition passed through this area on their way to New Spain in 1795-96 and again in 1800-01 under Captain José de Escobar y Ortega. In 1812–13 Mexican forces attacked Texan settlements near present day Lumberton after General Santa Anna's successful attempt to unify Texas with Mexico. A military skirmish occurred at this location which resulted in one man being killed, three horses being captured, and $5 worth of goods taken by Mexican forces as compensation for damages done to American property. In 1825 Jethro Cramer built a log cabin here while working as an auctioneer for Fannin County sheriff James Polk during his campaign for governor against Sam Houston. In 1865 Union general John Buford invaded Texas and defeated Confederate general Braxton Bragg at Brazoria River Bridge outside present day Lumberton; this event marks the beginning of Reconstruction in America following the American Civil War. On February 26, 1870 Patrick Haggerty erected a two-story stone building (now called "The Old Jail") on Elm Street in Lumberton which served as county courthouse from 1870 until it burned down in 1901; it replaced an earlier courthouse located south of town on Clear Creek Road which had been destroyed by fire on October 10, 1869._ On March 6th 1870 Andrew Johnson granted voting rights to African Americans who had resided within Indian Territory since before May 4th,[1] making them eligible for Ulysses S Grant's Emancipation Proclamation effective January 1st 1862._ This event signified the end of Reconstruction and began Reconstruction eraback home US History

Lumberton is located on the western edge of Wichita Falls County and lies along U.S.-Canada Border Highway 6 east of its namesake community in Lumberton Township and north of its eastern border with Hutchinson Township. The first settler to live in what is now Lumberton were two men who homesteaded land in 1872. In 1906, a post office was established here and remained operational until it closed in 1970. The name "Lumberton" originated from lumberjacks who used to stop by for supplies during their work visits to Wichita Falls County. The present day town center was built around a cotton gin that operated between 1865-1893 and again between 1903-1906 thanks to an act of Congress known as the McKinley Act which granted $5 million dollars to be used for rural development across the country including money given specifically for infrastructure projects such as roads and schools within 24 months of being enacted into law. This act also helped spur economic growth within this area by creating new jobs opportunities for local farmers and entrepreneurs who would then bring goods back overland from Canada using newly opened trails connecting Wichita Falls with Mexico City through Texas's Rio Grande Valley
Lumberton began as a small community on the banks of the Trinity River in 1875. The town grew rapidly and by 1907, it had a population of over 1,000. In 1916, Lumberton became part of the new municipality of Amarillo. On July 1, 1935, Amarillo annexed Lumberton and its population increased to 2,500. On November 3, 1938, Lumberton was renamed Timberline after the local logging company that owned most of the land in the area. As Timberline continued to grow and annex other towns within Amarillo County, it soon outgrew its original boundaries. In 1961, Timberline was dissolved and its lands were annexed by Amarillo into the newly created city of Amarillo.
