Lumberton, Texas is a small town located in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Lumberton is named after Colonel John Lumber who built a sawmill here in 1857. The first store in Lumberton opened its doors on December 15, 1875. In 1903 the town had a population of 2,000 and by 1910 it had grown to 5,000 residents. Over time there were several stores and a post office in Lumberton until it closed its doors for good in 1949. One of the most notable people from Lumberton was Jlevon Brooks who played football for SMU University from 1976-1981 and also represented the Houston Oilers (now the Dallas Cowboys) on their pre-season tours during that time period. Another prominent figure from this time period was Dr Sidney Wickerham who served as Medical Director for both Baylor College of Medicine and Methodist Hospital here in town before he retired in 1984. He later became Professor Emeritus at Baylor College of Medicine where he remains today one of America's leading experts on regenerative medicine. In 1950, Lumberton was renamed for General James Hogg, who fought in the Mexican-American War and other key battles during the Texas Revolution.

Lumberton was founded on July 14, 1859 by Reuben Hodge and his wife Rachelle Hodge. The town got its name from Lumber Creek which runs through it. It post office opened in 1870 and had a population of just 10 people when it closed in 1879 due to lack of customers. Lumberton started as a agricultural village with some sawmills and a few grocery stores catering to local farmers. However, over time lumber mills became dominant and the industry has continued to be an important part of the economy since its inception. The first mill in Lumberton was built by Charles Sweeny and operated until 1865. Another mill was built by John Fritchey in 1868 but this one failed and he sold it to James Jarrell two years later for $40,000$. In 1875 Jarrell partnered with Andrew McMillin and they began producing high-quality hardwood lumber which caught on quickly among other towns in the region. In 1893 Lumberton became the first town in Texas to have electricity when it connected to Dallas power lines. 2 more mills were added to Lumberton during the early 20th century: one by Wirt Lewis (1901) and another by Abraham Brown (1905). Both mills produced wood products such as desks, chests, cabinets etc., but stopped production after only a few years because of competition from tractor-driven logging machines that could handle harder woods than hand tools could manage. In 1930 there were only 3 homes left in Linderon while over 50% of its citizens lived outside the community now known as Abilene proper according to official government records; much like many other rural communities across America during this time period! However despite this huge decreaseidence inside the limits of their own community Local Men organized themselves into Loggers’ Incorporated Company #1 which continues operations today still quarrying hardwood for various purposes including furniture manufacturing

Lumberton is a town in Burnet County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lumberton was founded in 1881 by John Hays and James Gentry as a small community on the Brazos River near what is now Round Rock. In 1902, Lumberton became an independent municipality under the name of "Lumberton". In 1912, two brothers named Harry and Wiley Haney bought land east of Lumberton and began to build a sawmill on their property. The mill became known as the Haney Sawmill because it produced wood for Henry Haney's farm animals. In 1916, J.D. Ferguson bought the Haney Sawmill from Harry and Wiley Haney and renamed it the Ferguson Sawmill. The sawmill operated until 1979 when it was taken over by Smith Manufacturing Company which changed its name to Smith Industries in 1984. The first school in Lumberton was built in 1881 by John Hays with assistance from James Gentry. A second school building was erected in 1886 using money provided by Mrs W C Weldon who made cuts from her husband's lumberyard business which she donated to charity. An upper elementary school was built in 1915 with help from Mr Wm B Dixon who also donated money for its construction A kindergarten opened in 1922 with instruction offered through distance education methods An elementary school called Indian School opened in 1928 Middle School (grades 7-12) opened doors on Monday mornings between 1955-1957 A high school (grades 9-12) called Lamar High Schoolopened doors on Thursday afternoons between 1957-1960 . Mr T Boone served as Superintendent during this time period As enrollment Increased so did classes and need for more classrooms thereby moving into new buildings which are still standing today including Mrs Mae Slaughter's addition which housed music room/ choir room/ gymnasium/ 2 science labs/ 2 kitchenettes along with 3 single bedroom apartments plus office space currently used as a community center When Lamar High closed all grades were merged together becoming Longhorn High School where we are currently enrolled
Lumberton was founded by the Lumbermen of Texas in 1876. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the railroad, and it became a large manufacturing center. In 1916, the city built its first municipal building, and in 1938, it established its first school.
