Over time other settlers arrived including John Hargrave who donated land for a post office and store; Friedrich Kapp who donated land for Cemetery (now Oak Lawn Cemetery); George Weingarten who donated land for School; Ferdinand Pfaffinger who donated land for Baptist Church; Joseph Pohlmann who donated money to found village Hotel; Frederick Wesselsmeyer who contributed wood to build Schoolhouse No 1; August Wilhelm Herzog who contributed lumber to build Church House No 2-3; Chas.[sic] Weber[sic] whom they called "Weber Brothers" because they raised wheat crops thereabouts until 1898 when they moved their business to San Antonio due to bad weather thereabouts.; When post office opened on November 5th 1882 it was given the name "Lumberton". By 1886 there were 10 businesses in Lumberton with over 400 employees chaired by Mr John Hargrave with stores at Main Street corner 3rd Avenue & Old Post Road (later renamed 4th Avenue), bakery at Main Street corner 2nd Avenue & New Post Road (later renamed Broadway), mercantile at 4th Avenue & I-10 (later renamed 6th Avenue), blacksmith shop at 6th Avenue & I-10 (later renamed 7th avenue) doctor's office at 6th Ave & I-10 (later renamed 8th avenue), hotel/motel at 7th Ave & I-10 (later renamed 9TH avenue). In 1890 Michael Jorgensen bought all of original Schneider's Mills property north of present dayMain Street from John Hargrave - making him one of largest landowners west of Houston dates back that long!Michael Jorgensen died unmarried leaving his vast tracts within LumberTON subdivision titles deeds deeds mortgages real estate interests etc still extant today!
