The Lumberton area has been inhabited for over three hundred years. In 1836, John Denton established a sawmill in what is now Lumberton. The first post office was founded in 1839. In 1868, Lumberton became an agricultural town with a market and two churches. By 1910, the town had a school and two churches. A new cotton gin was built in 1912. The mills closed around 1914 because of lack of demand for lumber from Europe and Mexico; however, due to increased farming activity in adjacent counties, the towns continued to grow until they reached their current size by 1970. Lumberton experienced significant growth during World War II as the war led to an increase in military presence in Haskell County; this led to an increase in employment at local businesses including mill owners and farmers who supplied goods needed by troops stationed throughout the county. In addition, many local residents enlisted in the military or worked within local factories producing munitionsduring World War II (many of which remain open today). The post-war period saw some slowdown of growth as people returned to their pre-war lifestyles; however, overall growth has since resumed thanks to various economic expansions and associated job creation opportunities that have occurred throughout Haskell County over the past few decades."

Lumberton is a city in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,858 at the 2010 census. Lumberton is located on theranch of the Chisholm Trail and began as a small settlement in 1871 when settlers arrived from Tennessee. It became an agricultural town after railroads were built through the area in the early 20th century. The city was named for J.B. Lumber Company president James Bogue Lubbock in 1909 and received its current name in 1959 when it was incorporated as a municipality. The first European settler to arrive in what is now McLennan County was John Ledbetter of TN who established a cabin in 1871 west of present day Lumberton on theranch of the Chisholm Trail. In 1898, Robert Hogg purchased 100 acres (40 ha) at corner of FM 974 and Polk Street near present-day downtown Lumberton from J.B. Lumber Company president James Bogue lubbock for $1,000 cash considerations only 2 years prior to his death without leaving any heirs apparent so it is not certain how Hogg acquired this property or what motivated him to make this purchase; however, he may have been motivated by his interest in lumbering which had become an important industry in McLennan County by that time due to increasing development alongrailroads across central Texas including Pecos Valley Railroad and Gulf Railway lines connecting Dallas with Houston and points northward). Lumberton is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,748 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Ft Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Lumberton was George Pickett, who arrived in 1847. By 1850, there were six families living in Lumberton. The first school opened in 1851 and was used by various local churches and schools until it closed in 1898. Lumberton experienced some growth during the 1890s as a result of new transportation connections to Fort Worth and other towns east of Lumberton via the open range country to the north. During World War II many Lumberton residents served in the military including Michael Jordon (US Army Air Forces), Forrest Crain (US Navy), Gene Roddenberry (NASA), and others. Some of these people later lived in neighboring Richardson where they continue their careers or founded their own businesses.
